Default diesel ranger performance build

Hello,
Bought my 1986 ford ranger factory 4d55 Mitsubishi diesel back in February 2013. First motor smoked white like a freight train. Rebuilt injectors, new filter/oil, etc.. still smoked. My old boss has a head gasket tester, via antifreeze. Head gasket was bad. Replaced gasket but then went out again. Luckily I found a motor 2 miles from my house!!! Inspected everything and it looked clean...LOOKED. Put motor in and guess what. Blown head gasket haha. Put truck on back burner until December 2013. Tore down second motor and found that the bearings were not wore but spun. Ouch!! Got in further and found all four of the second set of combustion rings were broke. Could be the reason why there was no compression haha. After days of research I contacted Mike Warme. Seen him on many forums advertising parts. Contacted him and I ordered new pistons, bearings, freeze plugs, balance shaft bearings, water pump, and new oil pump for my original motor, because there was less carnage. Got a 4d56 head due to the valves on the old one being bent after a human failure rather than a timing belt failure. When I was timing the motor I was in a rush and did not put the h.b. back on and the keyway came out on startup and the crank was just spinning away while the came was not moving. So after all of this I have received all my parts but my block, crank and balance shafts that are still at the machine shop. He called me last week and said I needed oversized thrust bearings to go with my oversize journal size. Called Mike Warme back up and luckily he was able to let go of a set of his rare oversize journal and thrust bearing. So now it is time for my future plans now that you know where I am currently at. Being a mechanical diesel all upgrades apply there but to a limit. I know I know, "I will blow it up" but I have worked with idi diesels before and will not do upgrades until motor is broke in. With appropriate gauges, boost, pro, and oil temp. Will get other gauges later on but for now that is it. Turn up pump, turn boost referencing valve, plan on a bigger turbo with an intercooler, upgraded radiator and hopefully a sas sometime. Turbo will not be to big I don't think? Looking at a holset hx30. Please comment or feel free for criticism.

Haha some pretty bad luck with head gaskets I see. Sounds like you have good plans and I'm looking forward to seeing the progress!

Thought a out going with stacks lol. Probably just going to hack it off and run 3" turbo back to a 5" tip, once I get my hx30 on

Looks like a fun project, I'm looking forward to your progress. Some ugly bearings. They look like the ones I spun in my Suzuki. Have fun, and good luck!

Hello all following this build. Got outside and worked on my ranger some more today and I got pictures and questions. Hoping for replies. Thank you

----------

----------

These are before pictures

----------

----------

These are after pictures. Removed both inner fender wells and wire wheeled everything in sight

----------

Does anyone know what this is? There are two wire coming from what I think the starter or glow plug solenoid. It is underneath the driver side headlight and also under the battery box.

----------

Also considering moving the battery to the right of this red line and put my cold air intake where the battery box used to be. My question is can I remove the right side of the box and seal both the hole in the case on the blower side and the hole in the firewall and still have a functioning blower assembly with all doors opening and closing correctly, directing all air in the right directions. Going to put ac on it later on but not for a year or two, just trying to get it running. Thought that might be a good idea for a battery location. Thanks for all of your replies in advance

Got a question about putting photos on here. Is there an easier way than the one advised? Can I put multiple pics up at one time rather than one at a time?
