haha i hear you there.

Did you ever calculate gas mileage before the swap? it would be interesting to know if you get better mileage with a manual trans.

I never did because with the whole TCC Solenoid issue I had, driving the truck the way I had to made for really shitty gas mileage. I can tell already though that it's much better than it used to be. It's never gonna be great, but I'm happy with where it seems to be. I used to spend around $60 in gas a week. If I cut $20 off of that, I'll be extremely happy.

It looks a lot better with that manual trans in there. Now can you convert mine over to a
5-speed manual?

Well, it's been one week since the swap. Everything is going great, and I'm loving the hell out of this 5-speed. Driving in the city is a bitch, but I just try to take back roads as much as I can.

--------

In other news, new DSG bumper, new headlights, and a bunch of scratches all over my powerdome and valance.

But I washed the truck for the first time since January when I lost reverse, and man did I forget how nice she looks all shined up and shit. Almost makes me want to mall-crawl for the rest of her life.

Haven't updated this in awhile. My new 5-speed is doing great, and I love it much more than the autotragic. I have put over 1K miles on the truck since the swap, so it's definitely a success. Clutch pedal assembly has gotten a little noisy lately, but I soaked the pivots in white lithium grease today and it seems to have quieted down completely.

I finally replaced my cracked rack and pinion. a crack around the circumference turned into a chunk missing on the back side, so it was time to replace.

Changed the fluid in the M5OD just to make sure all was well. No flakes on the drain plug, and the fluid looked as bright as the day I put it in. Don't foresee myself having to change the fluid again since by the time the new fluid gets old I'll either have gotten rid of the truck, or found an Explorer 5.0 donor with an M5OD-R2.

I've kinda started mall-crawling with the truck. $2,000 worth of parts to fix one day's worth of damage kinda makes you re-think your off-road desires. I've hit a few small mud puddles here and there, but I don't foresee any hardcore off-roading for a long time.

Relocated my CB into the center console with an external speaker that will be mounted on my future sub box. Makes for a cleaner look inside the truck.

Also upgraded to a better Pioneer head unit with USB/Direct Ipod control/Customizable Color/HD Radio/etc.

There's probably more, but that's good enough for now.
