Default The 99 Ranger Solid Axle Swap begins.

So i went and picked up the axles last night, i have a 9" rear and a dana 44 front, out of a 79 F150. The front end is set up for coil springs, i wanna run leaf springs though. I have a buddy who has a dana 44 housing set up for leaf that he will give me. Any suggestions, recommendations?

As long as the leaf housing is from a 78-79 F250 then you can swap all the parts from your coil housing over.

No he cant. 79 F150 has cast wedges on the axle and you can not "cut" them off.

yes, coil is most def the way to go. but what is your budget? and are u doing all the fabrication yourself? coils is going to be the most expensive setup b/c you will need to link it or do radius arms

Ford radius arms would be cheap, easily done for the same price as Leafs.

not exactly. the brackets are expensive, and unless hes doing his own fabrication hes going to be paying some money to get them mounted

He would have to pay to have leaf mounts mounted also if hes not doing it himself so that doesnt matter. Grab a set of stock brackets off just about any TTB or Radius arm ford vehicle or extend the arms with some tubing and run a Joint and tradition link mount.

A new set of Radius arm brackets goes for $85-125 for the pair. Radius arms are very cheap to setup. Plus his axle already has the stock arms with it so it will be super cheap to setup.

haha ya ya. im still learning. and from what ive looked at and talked to a few others, it was going to be expensive to do radius arms on my truck. but i went with leafs because of my budget.

Ill be so happy when people figure out that leafs are not any easier or really cheaper then a decent coil setup.
