Re: The 99 Ranger Solid Axle Swap begins.
There really isnt a ball park answer for that. People have done them for under $1000, Im way over that on mine. Im closer to 6-8k total for my build so far. I have over $1000 in just the front axle with out any suspension, tires, coilovers, ect.
My list:
200 for axle (86 waggy D44)
500 for new outers with highsteer
80 for new calipers
200 for gears
100 for setup of gears
225 for front locker
100 for differential cover
575 for 36" TSL's
200 for Rims
250 for DIY beadlocks
400 for coilovers (helps to get a deal on a new set)
320 for coilover coils
420 for links
100 for steering box
1600 for rear axle (built currie 9")
100 for rear ubolts and plates
250 for misc bolts and metal
400 for new seats (PRP Premier Highbacks)
400 for tube for cage and tube bed
Total 6520 dollars
Thats with out any drive shafts, fuel system, rear shocks, custom exhaust and I still have alot of little nickel and dime stuff left to do.
Keep in mind my build is more of a total build then just the front end.
If you use a D44 from a 78-79 1/2 ton ford or an EB D44 and used the stock radius arms you could do it for around 1k depending on what you bought the axle for.
Some rough prices that could be expected
100 - steering box
500 - Axle
100 - radius arm mounts
150 - Coils
100 - Panhard Bar
100 - coil buckets
Thats 1050 with out tires and all the small hard parts like nuts and bolts and anything else. But deals can be had everywhere. You could get a stock set of radius arm mounts and a used set of EB coils along with a cheap stock Panhard bar from the truck the axle came from. As well as the coil buckets. So it can be done cheaper. Ive seen the complete setup off a 79 F150 from coil buckets to axle to radius arm mounts go for around 600 before. Its all about shopping around.

Ive seen at least 3 coil springs shoot out of their spring pockets. Thus I can decide that all springs are dangerous and we must use marshmellows to hold up our trucks so that no one ever gets hurt.
Parts break all the time. Doesnt mean they are "dangerous".

Re: The 99 Ranger Solid Axle Swap begins.
Well i wanna leave the 3.0 for several reasons, there reliable most of the time, good on gas, and i hate doin engine swaps, i never get it the way i want it. I would want it to be like the 5.0 came stock in the truck, and i will never get that. But im prolly gonna end up boring the cylinders to .040mm over, put a better cam, port and polish EVERYTHING i can, roller rockers... basically i wanna see what i can do to a 3.0.
