Default 2004 5.0 project

I'm starting this thread as a continuation of the thread I started in V8 tech because this is where it should be. Here are all of the progress pics to date:

Got some time in on it today; driver side control arms, spring and shock. Tomorrow will be the passenger side.

Also Thanks to STL's sticky post about axle codes I realized I'm not cool enough to have the 8.8 rear. So does anyone know how hard the R5 axle would be to find in a salvage yard?

What's up everyone, I finished the install of the lowering kit today. Only thing i noticed is that i put the camber plates back in backwards. I'm going to leave it like that for now to see if the weight of the 5.0 will help it out at all; if not, it's not hard to flip them back. I also had the first tool casualty of the project today. One of my Klein screwdrivers snapped trying to take the spindle off. Here's the new pics.

So here's how it looks today. A little teaser of the Cobra's and with the tires on them it dropped 2 more inches for a total of 7 in the rear and 6 in the front. Gunna see if I can get my hands on a hoist and finally pull the Vulcan out of it. Also got the Stang in the air today and hope to start prepping it on Sunday.......we'll see how the weekend goes though.

I did flip the camber plates back but it didn't fix it all the way so it will still need a camber kit when I get it aligned.

The 5.0 is already pretty built. Intake, throttle body, intake manifold, full MSD, and right now it's straight piped but once it's in the truck I'm going to put mufflers on it. I'm going to give it a once over while it's out and may steer towards a stand alone engine management but I'm not sure yet. The main harness has been around and moded a whole bunch already so that's definitely getting replaced, plus putting the air pump back on, and re-installing heat and A/C.Also doing a full interior but that's a surprise.

Awwwwww snap! Finally got off my glued to the couch for winter butt and did some work yesterday. Check it out.
That Sucks!

Got the engine and harness pulled now on to rearranging some stuff and to proceed with what's next. The brake and clutch pedal come as one assembly and cost only $99 from ford brand new. Haven't decided on the cable yet. Any suggestions? Also gotta strip the rest of the vulcan electronics from the cab. Found the rear end here http://www.automotix.net/autosalvage...r_salvage.html but can't afford it until my taxes come back. In the mean time I think it's finally time to rip the crustang to shreds and get my powerplant ready to go back in the ranger. I know it's not a lot but I want you guys to know that I am going to finish this thing one day and as of now I really really really want to finish it before this summer, so we'll see.

I can double check but IIRC my 1993 Splash parts vehicle has a 8.8 w/ 3.55 posi. I'm in Clinton, SC, but have you checked jy's in your area for explorer's???

Yeah, I've been out to look a couple of times around here and haven't had much luck. The salvage yards here seem content to help you keep your beater running like a beater with nothing but high mileage very old vehicles. Also not really looking to do the whole welding spring plates and shock mounts to an explorer rear. I am pretty pleased with the site I put the link up for and would definitely try to get the vin for the ranger it came out of to confirm the mileage. Also I'm pretty sure Splash parts are one off from the rest of the ranger lineup when it comes to suspension set up. Plus the $800 shipped to my door price isn't that bad compared to having one built for a whole lot more.

Do you plan on keeping your 2004 gauge cluster? If so, how are you going to deal with the digital odometer?
