Default 2000 2WD 3.0- Beginners Build

Bought this about a two months or so ago, 150,000 miles. It had been sitting for a year but started right up with a jump and has had no starting trouble since.

Here's the first picture of it. I didn't even take that hard top home. Left it with the dude- it was broken and had to wasp nests in it.

Brought it home and immediately did the full tune up- wires, plugs, fuel filter, oil filter/change, air filter, pvc, wipers, and new tires (just got some cheapos in the stock size). Then I got into the stuff it needed like blown fuses, front pads, calipers and rotors, o2 sensor, idler pulley, serpentine belt, front window motor, wheel bearings. Then got into the things I wanted like painting the wheels black, bed rails, anchors, new grille.

Painted the diff back to black, and the exhaust pipes. Used bed liner on the rockers. Also bit the bullet and ordered new wheels.

New side markers installed

Have sitting in my apartment 4 new 31s and some new Procomp wheels

arriving today is a 4" spindle and 2" block lift, new suspension parts all around. Gonna get the new suspension on then the wheels/tires. Also going to remove the valance and bed-liner the chrome bumper until I can make/find a steel one. Wish I knew how to weld!

Yea I might tone it down a bit eventually, but I'm really excited to get the new tires on. I think it looks funky with such tiny tires and I hate having to be careful on backroads. The anchor points I use SO often. Pretty sure (hoping) that once I get the new tires/wheels on, and get rid of the chrome, I'll be done.

Maybe.

I'm shooting for something like these two.

Cool - yeah those look pretty good too.

I wonder how yours would look if you got some red pinstripe tape from the auto parts store and run a horizontal red line between the white and black areas. You could pull it off if you didn't like it

For sure. Ran out the first go- I just bought more but figured I'd want until I do everything else in one swoop.

As for red, I DID get some red engine paint since I have to replace my valve cover gaskets. Figure if those will be off, and the intake, some red won't look too bad

You mentioned the lift components are coming in today, are you going to install them or wait? I like the simplicity of your build, I'm excited to see what the lift looks like. They always drastically change the look of the truck.

I wish today was install day. Today I got the suspension parts, tomorrow I get the spindles and front shocks, Friday I get the rear shocks, and I don't know yet when the rear blocks will get here.

So what I MIGHT do is start on the front lift and suspension while I wait for the rear blocks and shocks. Then I can slap on the whees/tires once the rear is done. I just don't know how damaging it'd be to have the front at 4" and the rear stock for a few days. Sure will look funny!
I think tomorrow I'll get going on the valve cover gaskets and painting the valve covers and intake. Then hopefully by Friday can be front lift day and if the blocks get here Saturday can be rear lift day and wheels/tires Sunday. Planning it out as if ANYTHING car related ever goes to plan.

Of course the set I bought with valve cover gaskets didn't have the intake gasket (it was supposed to) so that'll be here tomorrow. Today I just removed the lower valance (hard to see) and painted the bumper with truck bed liner. Did the missing strip on the tailgate too, just didn't take a photo. Will take more today when I get it off the street.

Really happy with how it looks without chrome. Still on the fence about whether or not to paint the back bumper or not. No rush though in deciding.

Got ONE side of the front lift done today- the ball joint took hours and I went through two ball joints. Needless to say, tomorrow I'll just not mess with it and let the shop handle the ball joint when they do my alignment. Then it's on to the rear lift.

4" Lift spindle
Ball joint
Upper control arm
Outer tie rod
Shock
Stabilizer bar

And the rotor dust plate didn't fit on the new shackles- sO I guess I'm without one.

Looks pretty good! Did you paint the control arm and spindle or did it come like that?

It came like that. Pretty and black. Worried about turning the truck around tomorrow so I can do the other side and stay curbside- the castle nut on the lower ball joint is on but just so. It's tight, but not going up any higher and theres no cotter pin (the nut isn't high enough to allow for the pin). The threads were damaged in our efforts to use the crappy press.

Drivers side done today. Mostly.

The outer tie rod would not separate from the inner- so I just left it. I'll do both inner and outer eventually when I get the lift finished, wheels on, and can rent a tie rod thingy.
Worried though that I messed up the alignment badly when I was trying to get it off- lost count of spins.

When I went to change the shock, I remembered the hard way that I had already taken off everything holding onto the LCA. luckily I was not underneath it.

Also my dumb ass forgot to put a washer on- guess who got to cut off a brand new bushing and use the old one?

Looks funny with just the front lifted, but I'll do the rear after alignment and new tires/wheels. Hoping the 31s will fit stock in the rear!

Debating driving or towing to get the alignment and driver ball joint done- worried that somewhere along the way I did SOMETHING wrong?
