Should I swap out my 3.0 for a 4.0?
Hi, everyone...
I Have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 with the 3.0L Vulcan motor.
I'm currently getting my Ranger painted and restored. I also plan on getting her lifted.
The 3.0 in my opinion is underpowered, so I want to swap in a 4.0 with later plans of adding a Supercharger.
I realize some guys/gals would recommend just buying a Ranger with the 4.0 instead of swapping but I like the looks of my 2000 stepside and I have an attachment to her.
I know that some people would also recommend doing a V8 swap from an Explorer but I'm not really sure about making her all-wheel drive from the original partial. Plus I kinda like to keep a Ranger motor in her, but I'm open to all ideas.
What would you guys recommend for a swap thats reliable and gives some good horsepower. I'm really leaning towards the 4.0 with a Supercharger. But I would love the opinions/recommendations of others on here.
I would also like to hear opinions on how many inches I should lift her along with tire size. I've been looking at 32 inch tires that are 11.5 inches wide, and I've been looking at 33 inch tires that are 12.5 inches wide. Tell me your preference , how many inches for lift, and what suspension lift kit you'd go with.
I don't want to lower my mpg too much.
