Re: Project Ruby
So I finally got my rear tire carrier installed.
I had to cut off the old studs since the spacing was different. No problem that a cut off wheel and drill can't handle.
Pic from today @ work since I didn't take a final one yesterday

I still need to brace the mounts and finish painting the carrier, but for now, I'm just glad to have my tire out of the bed

Re: Project Ruby
I highly recommend some kind of reinforcement plates behind those mounts

Got this today for $15 @ the junkyard. Transfer case shifter from a 90's f150.

Re: Project Ruby
Now I have to plan out how to install it. I might have to cut off the driver side cup holder, which isn't a big deal, since there's a ridiculous amount of cup holders in this truck.
Once I've found the position I'd like it mounted at, I'll reinforce the cutout with some sheet metal to make a good base.
I also have to decide whether I'm going to use a shift cable or fab some pieces for the shift linkage.

Re: Project Ruby
So it’s been a long while since I’ve done anything to my truck. A couple weeks ago the alternator died while I was at the gas pump. So since I needed a new one, I decided to upgrade to the 130 amp. I changed the 7.5 fuse which turned into replacing all the fuses because why not?
Anyways, I had problems with the belt when the new alternator arrived. The new one has a slightly larger pully so the original size doesn’t fit. I ended up going back to Napa and grabbing the next size up; this belt went on with a little bit of force, but once it was over the pully lip, it fit fine.

Re: Project Ruby
There’s something weird about these trucks where they have their own plans for what you should be buying for them; they don’t care what you want. So it was the night my alternator died. I had plans to pick up a free hood from an 05 Ranger the next day. Fortunately, my wife didn’t have work and she decided to take the hour long ride to pick it up; with her car.
I wrapped it up in a tarp to protect the roof of her Corolla, and strapped it down with 3 ratchet straps.

So jumping ahead in time to today, I picked up a grille, header panel, headlights and corners for $30 bucks. But of course, my wife’s car got jealous and decided to pick up a nail or something, so we had to drive around on a damn donut. Wouldn’t you know? The temp reading in her car said it was 103 as well. Go frickin figure.
But at least I got a crazy deal on all the parts.

Project Ruby
Another item I picked up for Ruby a awhile back was a 5th matching wheel replacing the stock steelie. Never understood why they didn’t at least provide one with a matching wheel size.

Project Ruby
Put on the new front end this afternoon. The hood was a pain the ass to line up
The hood will be getting a paint job soon, but for now, I’m glad it’s on
