Wow Phil that's an awesome build! It probably doesn't matter now, but I just did the 5" JDM rear flip and the directions said to flip the leaf spring bolt. (the axle cup did't fit the stock way) and it fits perfectly. But with the way they finish them, I could totally see why you'd still have to drill them.
Are you planning to add traction bars to the rear?

Hey thanks. Yeah I figured out the flip brackets a while back and I'm just waiting to get the truck running before I add any traction bars or anything. I wanna see how its gonna handle first, even though I know I'm probably gonna need something back there. Where did you find yours at?

I haven't yet. The flip kit kinda messes that up a little since I don't want the hanging type (for quick removal of rear ends). I think I'm going to weld the stock spring plates to the top of the axle and get the style that bolt to the spring plate and the frame.

Well today I did some final cleaning on the block (what little debris was left over after having it tanked) and got a chance to to paint it ford grey. I also painted the intake valley and the area under the timing cover with some black epoxy paint (one of my dads ideas). It turned out pretty nice, but judge for yourself. Now I'm just waiting for my pistons and rings to arrive so I can have them put on the rods and finally start putting this thing back together. These are the pistons I went with FORD 289 302 CAST PISTONS H273CP STD HYPEREUTECTIC

The pistons and rings I ordered came in Thursday and I took them to the shop to have the pins pressed off the old ones and to have the new pistons installed on the rods. Today i got a chance to finally install the crank, pistons and cam into the block. The guy at the shop gave me a set of lifters for free so that has freed up a couple of dollars for an intake that I'll be trying to get sometime this week, and he ordered a double roller timing chain for me ($25). So not a bad start on the re-assembly of this thing. I'm just hoping that I'm gonna be satisfied with the final outcome. I forgot to take pics of the process but I did get a couple after I was finished for the day.

Ok, it's been a while but now I'm just about ready to sit the block down in the truck to figure out where to drill the holes for my motor mounts (plates). I have a set of mounts from Advance Adapters and the instructions that they send with them aren't worth a damn. My truck is an 84 and it says to line up the driver's side mount up with the forward most hole on the frame and to drill the second with the plate parallel ground. The only problem is that the picture shows 3 holes and my truck only has 2 on the drivers side. If anyone has used these mounts please let me know how you made out or some helpful tips. Also I have been browsing around and found some Mustang mounts that look similar to the stock mounts that came out of the truck and was wondering of maybe these would work. Please help so I can finally sit this block down in my truck before I LOOSE MY MIND!

Today I said to hell with it and tried my best to install the advance adapters motor mounts in the truck myself. I'm not sure if they're correct or not but I did manage to get them in. So hopefully this weekend I can get the block lowered down in the engine cradle to see if things line up properly.

Well today I finally dropped the motor and trans into the ranger and I am so pleased. It's only been 4 months of anticipation, and now I can finally rest my nerves. I still have to figure out what I'm gonna do about some heads but I think I have a plan in mind. Just wanna say THANKS to everyone who's helped me out so far. And a special THANKS to you PETE, you've saved me alot of time, money, and headaches sir. More pics to come as I finish this thing up.

Guess who found a set of GT40 heads ?, I did. What a relief. I found a set last week off of craiglist for $250, in which I didn't think was too bad of a price. They supposedly came off of a 93 Cobra with a stamp that reads F3ZE on them. What I didn't notice was that there were 3 intake bolts that had broken off in the heads when I picked them up and it cost me another $100 to get them drilled and tapped out. So an easy $350 for these is what I ended up paying in total. For now I'm going with the stock rockers until I can at least get the truck running and then decide whether I'll get some rollers. I also ordered a pro-comp intake and some chrome valve covers which should be here sometime next week to slap on this thing, and my machine guy has a Holley 650-dp that I'll be bolting on. So I'm nearing the end of this project and I can't wait to hear what this thing sounds like. I'll post more pics after bolting on the intake, carb and valve covers hopefully next weekend. Stay tuned!!

I used the same type of motor mounts from advanced, ended up welding up the mount on the right side only. the left one needed to be moveable in case the motor needed to come out again. Great score on the heads. What type exhaust setup you going with?

I have a set of Dyno Max mufflers thats been sitting in the shed for a couple of years and some Hedman 88600 headers that my dad gave me, but after some beating and banging and a headache or two I just gave up and excepted the fact they wouldn't work. So now I'm just trying to round up a couple dollars and get a set of 89500 Hedmans. We have a local shop around here that I can get the exhaust ran for about $175 that my dad frequents so hopefully I can get these headers soon to try and get this thing buttoned up before the snow starts falling.

Those 89500s are a bear, that is what I am using now. They fit great on the driver's side, but not so great on the passenger. Points strait down at the i-beam. Some have recommend 88400 as a better fit. What transmission are you using and are you 4wd?

Hey Pete, its 2wd and I used the aod from the marquis and put a b+m shift kit in it. I still have the tv cable hooked up on the trans and I just bolted up a 650dp Holley but I'm unsure of which brackets I need to make them work together. Hopefully you or someone can help me out .

One more quick question before I buy some headers , has anyone used these Patriot Full Length Heeaders http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PTE-H8426/ , and if so how well did they work out for you.
