Alright before I get those comments saying use the search button, ive used that button for the last month and havent gotten the answers im looking for. Its more of a matter of opinion and experience in doing SAS builds.
I just picked up a minty 89 Ranger 4.0 Swapped HD 5speed Trans. Skyjacker 4" Long arm lift. Dana 28 with blown axle shafts and gears that are probably non existant.
8.8 in the rear from an explorer with 4.10 gears was installed recently has a tight limited slip. Problem being the dana 28 is 3.73, that shit just dont matchup!
Ive been wanting to do an sas for probably the last 5 years and I never had the know how or drive to do it. Now I HAVE to since I need to be able to 4x4! DUUUUH annnnd FUCK TTB! SOLID AXLE IT... only heard that a million times. So here goes it.
Ive finally got myself together and got the resources to get it done! Currently at school for welding I find myself with an abundance of tools and hehehe... free metal. just kidding.... or am i?
I have a good friend that has a 99 XJ nicely built, locked front and rear. hes been trying to kill it so he can build his YJ on 60s, but it just dont die.
So luckily for me that means PARTS!
I know what your thinking, why am I not doing coil springs.
Well because this is a CHEAP build on a small budget, that I would like to have done before Christmas. Not 3 months from now. I dont want to have to fabricate a set of upper and lower links when i can cut some square tube and make myself some leaf hangers/perches.
Alright, so parts list.
94 YJ Dana 30 complete w/ rotors/calipers
Stock YJ Leafs
Stock Ranger Rear leaf Shackles
Leaf Hangers
Leaf Perches
Front Cross Member
Rocky Road Over-the-top Highsteer
U bolts/plates
Custom CAD delete
Track Bar Delete
f250 Shocks mounts
Extras, XJ full axle shafts for CAD delete, Spicer760x Ujoints(Same as Rubicon), Lokka auto locker, Poison Spider Diff Cover... for now
There are other things I just cant think of, ill add them later when people remind me!
Now give me some info. Im going from spring under to spring over.
width of perches on YJ axle are 32.5" from outside to outside of leaf perch.
width of a MY Ranger frame is 30.75" from outside edge to outside edge.
Would you either move the axle perches inwards 7/8" on either side to allow the hangers to sit directing beneath the frame rails or...
Fabricate leaf hangers that allow the perch width to remain the same and have the leaf hanger sitting proud on the outside edge of the frame by 7/8".
Im leaning towards just moving the axle perches in 7/8".
Thus saving myself time fabricating funky leaf hangers.
For now Ill get you all going with some pictures of my Ranger and past Bronco IIs.
