Exclamation 99 xlt 4.0

Going to start working on this thread today with my return to this project.

I am giving my 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 with a 4.0 a much needed TLC once-over from head to toe, along with upgrades to make Ole' Red better than she's ever been before.

This is just a starting post (short and sweet) until I have time to go into detail with all of the work currently that has been done, and planned ahead.

Thanks for tuning in, and check back regularly for updates of progress and discussions!

----------

Here is a previous post I had written up when I first started working on Ole' Red

Longtime Lurker, User, and Referencer of the site from Northern MN. This forum has come through in flying color every time I have ever hit a bump in the road, or was day dreaming about Ole Rusty. I drive a 1999 Ranger XLT , 4.0, 4x4 with side steps and a color matched topper. She is my Pride & Joy after everything we have been through. I have owned the the truck for almost 5 years now (currently just broke 125,000 miles! ) and have only had to go under the hood for serious operation once to rebuild the top end/head gaskets. Besides that normal TLC has kept this beer can on wheels cruising in full health flawlessly

Recently after deciding to commit to "driving the wheels off of her" I have started disassembling the truck in my shop last week. I plan to take a deep look at every part of the truck, tune up, repair, replace, upgrade, modify, reinforce, test, etc as much as I can in the next month to ensure she is ready for another 75K on the open road. I have been using this website daily, and am finally sick of looking up other users questions to answer my own. This is what made me finally cave in and create an account. On top of that, all of the troubles, mistakes, tips, and advice I can offer along the way may help someone else in my shoes one day eventually. So I intend on keeping a thread updated daily of my build and its progress. Hopefully enough people see it, and can help answer any questions or answer their own along the way.

I look forward to meeting everyone, and let the fun begin!
(Starts holding down the "sissy-est" sounding ranger horn ever in a repeating and annoying pattern)

----------

Current steps I have already taken over the weekend.

-removed front bumper (pain in the ASS due to rusty bolts on brackets and aftermarket toehooks bolted/welded to frame and protruding Through center opening in bumper but also being wider than the hole also making sliding the bumper off impossible.... )

- cleaned the IAC (for 99th time) /installed missing gasket (never had one)

- cleaned MAS lightly, no tamper proof T20 bit :/ so I could not remove the actual sensor itself.

- cleaned intake out using carb cleaner

- cleaned throttle body

- started "The Big 3"

- removed 60/40 seats to hopefully replace with buckets (found 2x expedition XLT's I'm hoping I can use seats from) or just clean up the benches.

- removed dash (temp needle spun all the way around some how, and it's nice to know when your truck is about to have a heat stroke)

- got a new battery

- installed new battery terminals (stinger dist. Blocks)

- added wiring, relays, etc for my LED topper lights .

- in the process of running new speaker wire (16GA) through doors for new speakers (JBL 6x8's in te back, 6.5's in front doors.

- ordered and planned wiring for amp for speakers (no subwoofer, just speakers for this guy)

- changed the fuel filter

- changed oil/oil filter

- checked transfer case

- removed headlights/tail lights to restore and polish whole I'm waiting for new replacement bulbs.

- replaced all dash cluster lights with LED bulbs.

- planning and brainstorming how to weather seal doors (factory white paper barrier is bullshit)

- cleaned up wiring behind dash

- put new conduit/heat shrink on all wires visible under hood or inside the car

- and MUCH MUCH MORE left on my to do list. I literally have a notebook from the past 6 months of ideas for my truck. Any tips, advice, or ideas are welcome everyone!!
