Default Ivan's 2005 Ford Ranger Build Thread

Hey everyone, after viewing the forums for quite some time, undecided whether I wanted to buy a Ranger or not, then this little guy came about, an 05' XL that had a manual, and the 2.3L four cylinder, exactly what I wanted. I bought it with 78,746 miles on it, and the best part, one owner, an old man that is not able to drive anymore. I have records of it's servicing, plus, it's really not rusty at all!

Plans for the very near future:
- New Headliner (this one is junk)
- LED's for the toolbox
- D ring / Clip for hockey bag, backpack, etc on side of toolbox
- Hockey Stick Mount

Very Far Future
- 31" tires (Thanks, Garfield! )
- LED's on toolbox sides
- CB Antennae mounted on toolbox
- Radio Replacement

Nice, I had those wheels on mine when I bought it. I really loved the style. Truck looks clean!

How you get rust here is beyond me.. This is the only major spot

The headliner is also pretty bad on this truck, is there a cheap alternative to replacing it, or perhaps a way to repair it for a lower price?

The little brother parked next to the big brother. What an awesome truck, I don't know why Ford got rid of the Ranger.. Fantastic little bugger.

Still daily drive it, it's an awesome truck. I recently put 06 mirrors on it, in July-ish I put 06 tails on it. I need to get tires for it..... and wheels. Rear main seal has developed a leak, and I have blown out 3 shocks so far. Sway bar has become detached twice now.. Put new front brakes on it last week.. Overall, for how it's treated it holds up great! I'm looking forward to what the future holds for it!

Buy a clutch, slave and do the rear main while you're in there. It's easy, you can pick up an M5OD with one hand.

X2, you shouldn't be leaking that much right now, so just wait until you need a new clutch and be sure to buy a new rear main to put in.

FYI don't go for the cheap autozone one, I'm on my second and the first was leaking all over my trans by the end of the year... I threw another one in as a space holder until I replace my trans and clutch permanently hopefully later this year.

It leaks about 3 quarts over 2400 miles. I change at 3. I might start doing 2k so I never have to worry but I plan to have this truck mechanically perfect before I move. (5 months) so who knows what's going to happen. 😂

Broke a bunch of stuff. Was turning around in the back yard and didn't see a giant ass stump. Busted the radiator, bent the fan shroud to crap and back.. somehow bent the radiator forward into the core support? So I'm guessing the basket case bumper that's on these trucks lifted the front end up over the stump and it landed on the radiator? Who knows. It's broke. We'll see how bad the damage is. On the bright side the plastic bumper valence came off easily so picking up the front end off the stump with the skid steer will be easy.

Weeelllll!! You managed to bitch that up good and proper! Nothing like doing the job right! Hopefully, it won't be too hard on the wallet for the repair. Best advice I can give: cut that stump off level with the ground! Good luck!

Hopefully that will happen before the hurricane next week (Murphy,NC) indirectly in the path of Irma and I imagine once we get the 80+ mph winds I won't be able to get a skidsteer back there to drag the ranger back to the house much less a roll back to tow it (no time to fix, college) to town to get it fixed until we clean everything up in terms of hurricane debris.

That's not cool... Irma is like the worst one in recorded weather history. I hope for your sake that is misses you! Best of luck!
