Default 06 Ranger Pre-Runner

Well, this is gonna be kinda a slow project, seeing as its expensive and I have to save up for it all. But right now its begun so im gonna start a thread. Leave it or love it.

The over all plan is to turn my 2006 Ford Ranger, which is my daily driver, into a fairly competent pre-runner style truck, complete with cage, lights and long travel suspension. Its gonna be expensive and slow. Right now, all thats done to it is the front bumper, which I just got the truck back from the shop today. Its dark out, pics tomorrow.

Most of the fabrication work and stuff I cant do will be done by Baja Customs here in El Paso, or by people they know. The guys that work there seem to have pretty extensive contacts lol. Its a good thing. Only bad thing is only one guy at the shop speaks good english, and I only know a few curse words in spanish.

Currently on the to-do list, hopefully but not necessarily in the order they will be done is as follows:
X Pre-runner style bumper and skidplate (done)
Lights for the bumper
Cab roll cage
Racing Seats/safety harnesses
Front Long Travel + Coilovers/bypasses
Rear Long travel + Coilovers/bypasses
Rear cagework + Fuel cell
Reinforced/gusseted rear axle/Diff locker/disc brakes
Front and rear fiberglass body panels
American Racing rims + BFG Mud Terrains
Exhaust work
Superchip/ecm flash

And last, and totally on the dream list, is a turbocharger for the 4.0. Its totally on the wish list cause its $4k and I can live without it quite easily. Would be nice though.

The list is long, the price is expensive but it will be accomplished bit by bit. Currently, the truck has a K&N Performance air filter, Dick Cepek rims, which will do but I dont exactly care for, a CB Radio, and not much else done to it. I have some Bilstein shocks Im going to install this weekend and crank the torsion bars(the extent of any suspension work until i get long travel), and if I can get a friend to help me, Im going to try and do the exhaust work myself. Not too sure on that one but it cant be too terribly difficult.

Yes for now this thread is useless without pictures, I know. Feel free to drop any feedback or advice you might have. Theres a good bit I dont know, and a lil advice never hurt.

Ok, heres the pics I promised. This is of the front bumper, when I got it yesterday without the skidplates, when I added the skidplates, the sticker from the local shop doing the work, and then with the lights Im putting on it for now.

The lights certainly arent permanent. Just for show atm. They are some cheap lights that my room mate bought for his ricer. The mounts are cheap as hell, I know the first bump I hit, they are gonna lay back and stay there. Prolly not even gonna wire em up.

Still debating what I ultimately want on the bumper as far as lights are concerned. My original thoughts were some Hella 9inch halogen lamps...but eh. Not sure yet. Prolly gonna stop by 4x4Parts sometime and see what they got and do some price comparing.

Also, Im looking to install my Bilstein shocks tomorrow. The front ones look to be the right shocks, though maybe a hair short. I wont know for sure till I put them on. The back shocks seem a bit on the long side, but once they have weight on them they may be just right. They all look like they will bolt up fine, just worried about the lengths. Cant wait to crank my torsion bars as well!

So your gonna go dixon bros i assume? Unless your having a shop make a custom one. Have fun fitting a bypass up front. But good luck man sounds like a fun build lol. Ill tell you one thing make a list of everything your gonna do and calculate costs, and then double the cost lol. It always takes more money. Im about 6 grand deep in just the rear of my truck and its not even done yet.

Yeah, either Dixon Bros, or my local shop gave me a qoute for around the same price as their kit. Thats probably the one thing I dont like about my truck being a 4x4 and wanting to keep the 4x4. It makes things difficult.

I got a cost list written up, at least on the stuff I know what the cost will be, and I dont expect this to go quickly at all. I dont even wanna think about doing the rear of my truck right now though lol. Thats gonna be the most expensive bit cause I have to do alot of things all at once for that part! lol.

Coilovers+bypass is what Id like up front but yes...the room there is tight, especially cause Im keeping 4x4. I can dream cant I?

Ive checked yours out, just not left any words of wisdom. Love the engine work, Im supposed to be rebuilding a 3.4L for my Toyota, but it just isnt happening lol.

And yeah, Thats the one thing Im not digging about having 4 wheel drive/IFS on my Ranger.

Anyways, Got the read bilsteins installed, the fronts wont get done until wednesday. Im going to do them at the auto shop because I need to use the lift. I was supposed to do it that way for the rears, but me and my buddy managed fine.

Also, picked up some K/C Daylighters at Autozone today. Kinda spur of the moment purchase. They are so much better quality than the el cheap "Rallye 1001" lights that were on. Didnt get the wiring done today. Anyone know anything about the wiring for the foglights?

My plan was to wire the K/C lights to the foglights...but...for some reason me and my friend couldnt get any power to the wires. Then it got dark so I called it quits for the night. Can anyone give me any advice? I do need to get me a Chiltons manual though...so I guess now I have the reason to do so...

Got the wiring on the K/C lights to work. Not even an issue, just had to find which fuse was for the foglights and all is gravy now. Nowhere near enough light though! Still got one more tab in the front, time to troll Craigslist until I find someone selling a few K/C lights for cheap.

Need to talk to my local fab shop about making a rod to brace the rear mounts for the front IFS. Wednesday, gonna install the front shocks and as much as I want to crank the torsion bars now, I may have to wait until payday so I can afford an alignment. My tires were rubbing so bad when I was off roading earlier today. I hate hearing that sound!

A local shop, Baja Customs, did my front bumper. Most of this stuff is on indefinite hold for now. Cash is hard to come by outside of my budget nowadays.

Found a local friend who can weld though! That will be helpful! And he himself has a pre-runner truck so he knows whats up.
