Default rob1594's Rhody Build

Hey guys, my names Rob and I have been on the forum for a couple years now. I never really post but am always on the forum. I figured its time to make a build thread and share my truck. It’s a 2001 XLT 4x4 I got the truck in November of 2012, I joined the forum same day and got started on the mods right away.

Here's my truck as of now...

Ill take you through the stages leading up to how it is now.

Here’s how the truck looked for a bit.

Within a month I had my body lift and wheels/tires on the way. 32x11.5-15 Pro comp mud terrains on pro comp 15x8 rock crawler steelies.

Around Christmas I got some custom fit seat covers, they fit nice and snug and hide the ugly stock seats. Also purchased a toolbox and some bed rail covers.

Did the headlight and throttle cable mod.

Decided on a Flowmaster 40 original and had a side exit before the passenger tire for a while. I’m currently running it dumped.

Not to long after the exhaust I got some Hella lights and had them on the bumper and eventually mounted them behind the grill. Personally I think they look cleaner behind the grill, thinking of doing an hid conversion in them sometime down the road.

Saw a few guys installed a front hitch, I don’t off-road much but figured it would be a good replacement for the stock tow hooks, plus I love the look with a shackle up front. Also got a brand new rear hitch from friend for free, it wasn’t made for a ranger but did some fabrication and made it work nicely.

Saw a member bed line the flares and bumpers so I tackled that to get rid of the ugly fading.

Got some 06 taillights and emblems.

I’m going to split the post up, stay tuned for the rest.

I was looking around for some new wheels, the steel wheels were not cutting it in the New England weather and the salt was starting to take a toll. Bought some Mickey Thompson Classic II’s off the forum and then pulled the trigger on some 33x12.5-15 BFG AT’s this past December. Also cranked my bars.

I am currently at school so the mods are a bit slow for now, however this summer I have some plans…

-Expo leaf springs
-Expo full length console/ohc also some leather seats if I find any in good condition
-I have some KBS rust seal sitting in the garage waiting to go on the frame
Last year I looked into the coil over swap and decided I would fab up my own brackets and do the swap, I forgot about it for a while but after riding on cranked bars through the pot hole filled streets of Rhode Island all winter I decided to get going on the brackets again and would like to have the swap done by the end of the summer.

Went to the junkyard today and snagged some goodies. A few OHC's and a center console. The console needs a good scrubbing, its going to get black vinyl on the lid and I'm going to paint it landau black with SEM.

I got started on my center console this week, I started by spraying the mounting brackets with some rustoleum and cleaning and bleaching everything.

[IMG][/IMG]

I also put new fabric in the cubby section, with all the curves I needed to make many seams, however I was able to butt the seams real tight and it looks great. I wanted to keep the stock rubber look/feel of the cup holder and cubby so I used plasti-dip for those sections, not sure how well it will hold up, if anyone has any opinions on what would be a good alternative that would be great.

[IMG][/IMG]

And today I was able to get all of the plastic pieces painted using SEM products. I am extremely happy with the way it turned out, it looks awesome and right now this console is one of my favorite projects so far. I also bought some black vinyl today to recover the lid. Hopefully I will have it assembled tomorrow and hope to have it installed soon.

Got my console installed today and its looks amazing, I am extremely happy with the way it turned out one of my favorite mods. I need to fine tune a few things like find a place to mount my switches, wire up the 12v outlet and decide what I want to do with the rear vents and temp control

Great job on the seats and console. I am going to have to look into the coil you mentioned, I am not sure what that it is?.

thanks, I love the console one of my favorite mods. coil-overs take the place of the torsion bars and make for better ride quality. Theres tons of info on here and the other ranger forum that go into the details and how to go about the swap. Theres also many people that know much more about it then I do lol. Ive done a lot of research and have learned a lot over the past year or so and is something I will do, hopefully sooner rather than later

I know it's easier on an edge model since you have more room to work with. Check out forum member Castleguard, he has an RCD 5" coilover lift. It's pretty cool.
