What you don't want is rattle at random times, for example, at idle, or during certain RPMS, that most likely means the guides are broken. Our model years are bad for doing it due to the older guide design.
Luckily I don't have a rattle at any time while the truck is running. I think its a goid idea to get these squared away though before it gets to be a problem. Parts don't seem to be too outrageous on rockauto so I will hit this up soon. What makes that front tensioner such a bear to get back in there? The videos suggested it takes a great deal of effort, time, and extra hands just to install the new tensioner.

The external screw in tensioners are very easy to replace. Get ford brand name parts, this is not something you wanna go the cheap route on. The rear timing chain guide is the most difficult guide to replace, and if the rear chain is damaged, removal of the engine or transmission is required. The front two guides are much easier to replace.

Default Re: Mike's 2002 XLT 4.0 (Smiggins)

Haven't had time to do much but I did do a mudflap delete. That's pretty much the only update I have at the moment.
