Default Building Penguin (the '02 XLT)

I have stalked this website for the longest time and have finally decided to join, and start off with a build thread about the 2nd ranger ever in my possession. I am going to ask for help and ideas, so I hope people view this!

The truck I now have is a 2002 Ranger XLT, and black named Penguin (Because he was adopted in winter and loved to slide along with being black with a white chin - the chrome grill)

What I want to do:
- Bigger mirrors (my previous Ranger was a 2006, I like BIG mirrors)
- Paint rims black (they look worn, and why not?)
- More Power (Not sure how, but I have the 145 hp 3.0)
- Interior redesign (Previous owner was a messy smoker)
- Cool things on the way (always suggest things!)

The 3rd brake light from my '06 that I will add once I decide how I will rewire my cargo lights. I want to make them up top turn signals but have to cut out spots for them in the fixture.

The K&N Air Filter out of my '06, it is in rough shape and I want to clean it before I install it.

Finally for now, I have the seats of the '06 Ranger that I want to keep as the ones I have in now are basically bars with a seat cover over them.

More pictures to come when there is decent light outside!

I never did mention, the abs is on because it plain and simple does not work. Is it worth fixing or should I remove it all together? Airbag is on because i removed my pass seat.

So I am going to the junk yard tomorrow, going to look for a CHMSL to experiment with, a 2006+ dash and mirrors, a white sport track dash, bucket seats, a counsel for inbetween them, different badges, and more, if i can think of anything. Can anyone think of anything else to look for?

So after my last post, I have found out pretty much every junk yard in the state is only open when I am working, so the only new thing I have is some K&N filter cleaner so I can get my filter in finally.

Now for the bad news. Because of where I work and the fact I have no tools here, I decided to get my oil changed instead of doing it myself. The shop overfilled my oil by about 2 quarts and used a bad filter so no oil could get into the engine. The outcome? I drove about 40 miles on the little oil that actually made it to my engine. (Built Ford Tough? you bet!) But, because of the oil deprivation, my engine is running very rough. I talked to the shop and they only did an oil change, again. (it sounds like I might be able to get them to replace my engine, and they are the ones who told me to drive my truck that distance, not my stupidity) So, as of the last time I posted, things have gone downhill.

So not that anyone is reading this, but recently my engine died completly... on the day I was moving up to college. that was a while ago and now it is sitting at a shop while a mechanic I know well and trust tears my engine apart. So far, it is sounding like I have a case to have the shop mentioned earlier pay for repairs. what is sounds like they found is that they never replaced the oil filter (which they said they did twice) because it was really rusted on, but they did cycle the oil and overfill it, which gave the oil too much pressure and did not flow properly. What do you guys think?

Didn't happen to use Monroe's to get oil changed did you?

I would think so if all this happened right after you had them supposedly change it twice. Maybe they couldn't get the filter off and just left it then just added fresh oil on top.

Nope, I actually took it to Westland Auto Lube - And I recommend staying away from there. they're all idiots and I did not talk to any of them before they worked on it. I know, stupid on my part, but the truck was in desperate need of a change and my tools were in my old truck at the time.

My parents have had sorta the same issues at this Monro's. They use your same old filter if u already have one of there's on your vehicle. Last 3 times they have not rotated my parents wheels which they swear they have until I show then that I marked the inside of the wheels before it entered their garage.

At this moment, I still do not know what will happen with Penguin, but I will keep this build thread open as he will remain in the family and needs an interior redesign. The reason I am not keeping him is because he more suits my dad's needs than my own (EXT. cab with an auto trans) and my dad just bought a truck better for me ('03 EDGE single cab with a stick) so we decided to trade.

I'm subscribed in the meantime!
That's pretty terrible. I'd bust in there and make a huge bitch about that oil change. They couldn't get the filter off so they left it on..? I haven't heard of such irresponsible mechanic work. Especially on an oil change.

Just a small almost pointless update:

The court got me together with the shop to see if we could compromise with something. After a few hours of going back and forth (and not studying for my exams later that day) the guy the shop sent finally mentioned he didn't have any authority to give me even a penny. If I had any faith left in these people, it is long gone, and on the 13th this month, I will be fighting to get as much as possible out of these liars of mechanics.

Also, they still have not involved their insurance company of what is going on either. I swear these idiots should not be running a company.
