Update: ranger blew up the tranny, I guess 305k was its limit, plus I beat the shit outta it lol... I had the pcm tuned to the motor and the auto trans codes deleted. Now in the process of getting a t5 to put in. After that I willl be going all out with suspension, right now my main plan is improving the overall handling so I will be lowering it and it will be getting IRS in the rear, I'm super excited for this can't wait for it to go into action!

Wow time flies but I'd thought I'd fire up the only device that still works this app but I did get the t5 rebuilt and put in, my hydrolic clutch system was leaking and I was having problems with it fully disengaging the clutch... But I was able to drive it for a while only to realize that apparently t5s are weak as hell and third gear loves to start to die, so with that the truck was able to do a nasty burn out leaving my graduation and also a burnout contest at the Cletus and cars car show in Bradenton fl ( you can see it on YouTube) but since then I have parked it and not touched it for about a year now, I think when I get back from college I'll bring it back to its former glory! LoL

Nice job. I plan on pretty much the exact same build. But I have the torsion bar setup so it should go ok.

Either you were making too much torque for the T5 or you had a weak/improperly built, or worn out T5. Mine gets beat on daily and it handles it with ease. With 4:10 gears I'm shifting a ton as well. The T5 gets a bad rap from guys running 4cyl T5's or older, badly worn units. But built correctly, it's a great transmission that can hold it's own.

I think it's a combination of my clutch issues and the amount of torque I'm making, t-5s are not really the best tranny to be spinning 31s

With just GT40 parts and some roller rockers, you're not making enough torque to kill a T5Z that's in good condition and built right. As long as you're not doing clutch drops at 3500rpm on a sticky track. Adding a steel front bearing retainer and a steel rear cluster gear support plate is the best thing one can do to a T5. It'll help to keep the shafts from trying to force each other apart and egging out the rear bearings race hole in the trans case.

Man, it's 2022, and I had to pull the old ranger out of retirement! I ended up selling y daily and my other project (78 bronco) and needed something to get to work in, it only took a few hours to fix some of the issues that made me park her and almost forget her! With a new clutch slave, battery, and some new wiring for the fans, she was road-worthy again Sorta... I also had to make a trip to the junkyard for a new computer, pats module, and key because I have no clue where that key ended up lol. So it's been about two weeks since then and I have been dealing with a load of issues, the main one being the rear axle just sounding like it's going to rip itself apart, I ordered new shocks and decided today I was going to swap in another explorer axle, took all day between getting it from the JY, taking the old one out, welding on the new perches and then reassembling but man was it worth it! she will spin them all thru first and chirp into 2nd, it's as raw as it can be! All I can say is I'm excited to make this thing better, and actually make it function as it should!... I will post some pics soon she has taken on a sorta apocalyptic livery these days lol.
