I just haven't gotten around to it... it's no harder to put in park then any truck I've driven so I don't believe its the cable itself. Cause as I said if you wiggle it enough it stays in park, but other times it just sorta goes in park. It doesn't do that with reverse or anything like that. So first things first is I'm going to tighten those "bolts"! Hopefully that cures it.
I saw a great writeup by smokin' :
Automatic transmission shifter slop fix
Maybe address' the issue.

Fantastic job getting her the way you want!

Sorry for not up dating lately. Essie and I have been have a rough go. I had bought a "rust free" box out of California for it put it on and everything was great. That was back in June.

Oh and finally finished that back rack (but have yet to drill the new holes for it)

My starter went in August, got a new one then the wires crossed a month or so later and fried my battery. Got my new winter tires, then a calliper bolt fell out and of course the truck locked up and screwed one of my rims (put a hole in it)

2 days after the calliper incident Essie and I hit a surprise patch of ice during a rain storm and went into the Willy's. I got the truck brought back to the house and didn't touch it for almost 2 weeks because I was so disgusted. After lots of diagnosis and work Essie is back on the road but still looks as bad as when we crashed. Still runs very very rough. Has a large dent in the drive shaft and needs loads of body work.

Here's after the crash

Here's the front end no bumper skirt, fender flares are now all gone, broken park light, had to replace both mirrors, drivers side front fender is falling off, etc...

Oh yes and a brand new tire destroyed.

As stated above truck is now "drivable" and once again my daily driver, but rough and hard to look at! Parking light is now taped in with duck tape. Still need a drive shaft and more recently a brake booster.

Still love my girl and can't wait for her to be "finished"!

Jeez! Just read this thread from start to finish. Awful to see ur start and end point. Essie is supposed to get better looking, not worse!

My suggestion for what it's worth.Get a dent puller, a hammer, crowbar, some bondo and 10 cans of rattle can bedliner (solves ur color dilemma). That's what I did!

The box is fixable thankfully. By the time we are finished with it you won't even be able to really realize there was ever a dent there! I paid enough for it that it is worth putting the time and effort in to bring it back to life. Once the new front fenders and other front clip parts are retrieved from the junk yard I will sand them down and paint them. There is a lot of other surprises coming up shortly too, Essie defiantly has a lot of life left in her!

That's good to hear you're still positive about it all. Good luck with it and post your progress.

Did you ever fix the jumping out of park problem? Mine started doing that a few weeks ago. Under the dash on the drivers side where the shifter connect to the linkage for the tranny. There are two star bolts. One was very loose, the other almost all the way out. I tightened them up. And no more problems jumping out of park.

EDIT: Guess you already know this. I just saw that link in post #46 above explaining the fix. lol

I tried that, my bolts weren't that loose strangely enough. It still jumps out of park occasionally but I've learnt to deal with it at least until I around to fixing it. Thanks though!

Good things to come soon. New doors, hood, fenders, grille, rubber floor mat instead of the carpet. And some top secret other stuff! Stay tuned!

Just start making progress again and something else breaks haha. Obviously she doesn't want to live. Another new starter and a replacement rack and pinion this time.
