2004 DSG Level II (Build?) Thread
Hey everyone!
We'll start this off with a photo of my old truck. I daily drove a 1994 2.3 2WD for over four years before I bought this truck. After last winter, I decided maybe having a 4x4 wouldn't be such a bad idea. Although this winter is shaping up to be extremely mild... go figure haha.

I put over 40,000 miles on it. I do miss it sometimes (mainly the MPG lol).
Anyway, I picked up the FX4 back in September. I had been looking for a couple weeks for a truck, and the weekend before I drove 3 hours away to Bay City, MI to look at a '94 B4000 that was listed on Craigslist. It was a Florida truck and had less than 100,000 miles. It looked super clean in the ad. However when I got there, I found that it was not as clean as it had appeared and the 4WD didn't work after I specifically asked the kid before I even drove out there to look at it if it did and he told me yes. I was pretty upset and drove back home empty handed. After another couple days, I happened to spot the FX4 sitting on the side of the road about 2 miles from my house. Anyway, long story short. I stopped to look at it and bought it for $3,500 with 146,000 miles.
Now to today, I've put probably another $1,000-$1,500 into it. I've put 3,000 miles on it and I've replaced:
-Spark Plugs
-Plug Wires
-Air Filter
-Fuel Filter
-Muffler & Tailpipe
-Front Pinion Seal
-Alignment
-Both rear shackles and hangers
-Serpentine Belt
-All 4 shocks
-Sway bar links
-Caliper slide pins
-Headlight retainer
-Fog light
I'm about to change the rear differential fluid and transfer case fluid for the first time in the truck's life as well. As you can see the PO didn't take care of the truck for shit.
Enough of the boring stuff, I did just buy a set of 2006+ mirrors as well as some Cree projector LED reverse bulbs. I would eventually like to either put a pair of Hella 500FF lights behind the grill or an LED lightbar at some point. Onto some pictures in chronological order!
The day I bought it

And lastly a few ones I took today. It was a beautiful 50 degree sunny day, which never happens in late December in Michigan.

That's kind of what I was leaning towards as well. I'd like to find one that fits behind the grill between the two slats.

I tried to do that with my 20" but I ended up just mounting it on my grill. It's freaking awesome and it lights up the trail like nothing else.

I'd be afraid someone would steal it though haha.

I thought about it but it rides too good for me to mess with it IMO. Ideally I would LOVE to put a set of these wheels on it. In which case I would maybe think about a T-bar crank.

Re: 2004 DSG Level II (Build?) Thread
Well, I got one of the mirrors installed tonight. Took way longer than I thought, so I'll have to do the passenger side tomorrow. Also got the Cree projector style reverse bulbs installed. I'll get some photos tomorrow!

Re: 2004 DSG Level II (Build?) Thread
I unfortunately got in a wreck tonight. We got slammed the past day with about a foot of snow, and it's been so cold (around 0 for highs) the past couple days, that the salt hasn't been working. Anyway, on my way to grab a pizza tonight and hang out with some friends, I was approaching a stop sign doing probably 25-30 and started to slow down with PLENTY of room to spare before I hit the intersection. Well, since it's been so cold, the entire road was all a solid sheet of ice. Long story short, I didn't slow down at all, plowed through the intersection went over a curb and hit a tree which deployed the airbag. Had it towed to my buddy's body shop and he's going to look at it for me tomorrow. I won't be going through insurance because 1) I don't have full coverage and 2) I like this truck too much to have it totalled. Here's a picture of it after I hit the tree.
At any rate, I'm going to get it road worthy enough to drive it, and then i'll worry about getting it looking pretty again.
Have I mentioned I hate winter?
