Default ShaneOMac's Simple Sleeper Build

Well I finally decided to do a build thread. This will be a somewhat slow build and a reference page for myself. All the initial pics are going to be from my cell phone. So I will go ahead and apologize now. On to the pics

Day one when I brought it home in 2006: 98 XLT 3.0

First mod was a gift from my parents while I was away for a week. A 3" Fabtech lift spindle, 31" Geolanders, and 15" Eagle Alloy rims. I was beyond excited to come back to this

Next mod I did was tint my windows and a billet grille. Somewhere after that, I got a spray in bedliner as well.

Then I bought some clear corners and "projector" style headlights from Ebay.

At the time I liked the chrome bumpers better, so I bought chrome grille, front and rear bumpers, along with the fog light valence and added fogs.

In 2008, I saved up and bought the rest of Fabtech's kit (2.5 coil) from a member on another forum to make it a 5.5 kit and also bought 33x12.5x15 BFG A/T. I also installed 06 tail lights around that time. Other random things that were added that I dont have pics of is a Pioneer flip up DVD head unit, pioneer front speakers, polk audio rear speakers, Memphis Audio mono block amp, and Alpine Type R 12" sub in a ported box. OHC painted black to match interior.

----------

The truck sat this way for awhile because school took up most of my time and I was away for college. In 2010, I started to do some interior mods. I couldnt find any better pics of my seats at the time, but I had them re upholstered black and tan to match the interior and black carpet and headliner too.

Got some blue overlays for my gauges and white LEDS

Went and raided the junkyards and picked up an explorer center console, did the bucket mod and cut the 60/40 seats. Found out that explorers had lighted glove boxes so I had to get that of course and wire that up.
Spray painted the console black with krylon fusion and its held up just fine over the years. I also picked up an EATC and all the sensors from an explorer. This was a very busy weekend.

Before:

After:

Relocated the airbag switch. Got the idea from Buggman.

Got the lid recovered to match

Grabbed an 01-03 Airbag with the Ford logo in the middle. Much nicer than the ones without in my opinion.

Bought some LED strips from Amazon and wired them up under the bedrails and added a waterproof switch underneath the rail to turn them on/off from the outside.

Went camping out in Calico with some friends. Acura had some trouble but he made it to the campsite with minor body damage haha.

Went to the junkyard because I was bored and right when I was leaving, they brought an explorer in with the axle I had been looking for forever. 8.8 4.10 gears with Limited Slip and Disc Brakes. Used to be a common axle in the jy and then when I wanted one, they were all gone. I wasnt expecting to find the axle so I didnt have any of the right tools. I gave some Mexicans $20 and they took the axle out for me. Cant beat that haha. They were taking the motor out anyways. Win/ win.

Took it to my friend to have the spring perches welded and did the fluids and made sure everything was good to go.

Picked up some blue LED pods from Buggman

Went on a local trail with the lady.

Picked up an 01-03 powerdome hood for a $100. Test fit it and got it painted to match.

Only pic I got of the powerdome after it was painted. Cool picture, but cant see the powerdome all that well haha.

Decided to redo the interior again. Bought some power explorer seats and had them re upholstered black. Had to relocate my amp because the motor for the seats was in the way. Hid the amp where the jack used to be. Havent had any heating issues yet so I think Ill be alright.

Also decided to add LEDs where the cup holders are. Looks pretty sweet at night.

Picked up some Deaver F31's and some Kartek drop hangers for the rear. Took the springs to Deaver to get prepped. The ride was much better but the shocks were garbage.....

.....so I decided it was time to upgrade. Might as well go all out right? Picked up some King 2.5x 10"

Since I was in the buying mood, I figured I should buy some front shocks too since Ill be redoing those eventually.

How do you fit 2.5x 10" shocks in the rear without cutting your bed and without using stock location?

Cantilever of course. Brandon at BTF built this and I couldnt be happier. Does great work and answered all of my dumb questions haha

Grabbed some FOA 2.0 bump stops for when I redo my front end

Picked up an 07 bumper for free. Had to buy the bumper filler, and brackets though. Got it painted right away.

Shortly after, I finished the rest of the front end swap.

Drove it this way to the body shop (only about a mile away) to have him take care of the rest

Bought some flood pattern LED cubes to take the place of the fog lights. Bright little guys.

Picked up a Baja Designs 15" OnX at the Sand Sport Super Show for an amazing deal I couldnt pass up.

And that is how she currently sits as of now.

Small update:
I added some LED projector style reverse lights. I was very impressed with the output for being plug and play. Definitely helps backing up with tinted windows. Ill try and get some actual output pics later but the camera on the phone didn't do so well picking up the light at night. I did get these though.

I picked them up for a couple hundred on craigslist and took them to Deaver to get prepped.

Can't believe I missed this thread for this long!

Lookin' good man.

I must admit I like the original wheels better than the new ones, but I'm a sucker for 5 spokes. HA!

Update:
Picked up some 3" Fiberwerx fenders some time in December. I also forgot to post pics of the Camburg 2.0 shock mounts.

I got around to installing my fenders on Thursday. I will get around to painting them shortly. But until then, I will be a part of the #whitefendercrew haha

I also picked up BTF's Mid Travel kit in December and should be completely installed in a few days.

Nothing wrong with a 2wd. Mines 2wd and it's an off-road toy sometimes but mostly a pavement princess.

Update: Got the BTF kit installed. Truck feels great. Small problem with the compression fitting for the brake lines but Brandon got it squared away the next day. On to the pics.

Went out to King of the Hammers in Johnson Valley with some friends, truck handled great, I need to valve the front a little more, little soft for offroad, and I need to trim my front bumper so more to clear the tires.

My buddies Jeep. That thing tore it up on the trails

....and my other friend in his stock F-150. He thought he could take on the world, until he started sliding down this hill haha

Doesn't look like much but the sand was so soft out there, that even in 4 low, he would just start sliding.

Some shots from the actual event

I have no idea what this thing is but it was awesome!, I believe it had 54" tires if I remember correctly and I think those are propane tanks?

And just a cool aftermath shot
