Default Spindles

The new wheels and tires looked great! However, there was a little rubbing when turning hard, so I decided to buy some 4" lift spindles. I got them from WheelsandParts on eBay. I did a lot of research and heard nothing but good reviews, so I went ahead and purchased a set. I was going to get 3" spindles at first, but I wanted to uncrank the torsion bars as well, which lowered it about 1.5". I was tired of the crappy ride and handling.

After getting everything torn down on the front, and fighting with the whole thing for an hour, I decided to actually read the instructions that came with the spindles. It said that you have to grind the front lip off of the control arm as well as grind off the steering stops. Well... I didn't have a grinder. I took this as an excuse to go ahead and buy an angle grinder. I knew I would need one soon anyway, so I skipped all of the cheap $30 grinders and got a good one that would last. My $300 spindle install became a $450 project after the grinder, discs, safety glasses, gloves, and a few other small things.

The grinder I bought was the DeWalt 4 1/2" Angle Grinder (Model# D28402)

I Finally got the spindles on...

...and I'm loving the new stance!

The only problem is I now have to buy a bigger jack...

I love how it turned out. Uncranking the Torsion bars made it ride better than new! It was a fun project for me. Plus, it looks a hundred times better than before, and I was proud that I did all of the work myself.

Default New Radiator, AC Condenser, & Engine Detail

I was about to leave my garage to go get an alignment, when my radiator began leaking. After taking a closer look, I realized that the plastic snout the the upper hose connects was broken, so I had to buy a new radiator. I also purchased a new AC condenser, because most of the fins on the old one were mashed in, preventing air from getting to the radiator behind it.

New radiator vs. old radiator:

The old one was so clogged that you couldn't see through it.

I also cleaned the engine bay, intake, throttle body, replaced vacuum lines and some other hoses, rewrapped some of the wiring, and painted a few pieces.

Finally got everything put back together.

The next morning I had it aligned.

Default Current Progress

Here's some photos of the current progress on Project Troy.

I planned on getting some fiberglass up front before I Plasti Dip it, but want to get my full long travel kit before I buy fenders. If I get them now, they'll stick out about two inches further than the tires. I don't like the look of that, and I don't want put the spacers back on. So I'm just going to get a front left fender flare from a junkyard and dip it for now. I think it will look great anyways. Plus, I'm going to use the money I saved to start on the drivetrain.

Plans for the drivetrain:

- 5.0L V8 + transmission from Explorer
- Explorer rear end with disc brakes
- Differential locker
- 4.56 or 4.88 gears

The engine will be rebuilt and painted before going in.

Default New M3 Mirrors

I thought I would show you guys the new BMW M3 mirrors I put on my truck. I also have custom brackets to mount them. They are power mirrors with LED turn signals and running lights. They are a bit smaller than the OEM mirrors, but I think they look great. Also, I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to have this on a Mazda pickup.

I also pulled the window trim off to clean it and restore it with new clips and adhesive before paint.

Default Update

I know it's been a while since I posted on here. I've been so busy with school, work, and of course, working on Troy, that I guess I forgot. Haha. I just rebuilt the front suspension last week. Any of you following my Instagram have already seen, but here's the stuff I got/did...

- Ball joints
- New UCAs
- Inner tie rods
- Outer tie rods
- New shocks
- Sway bar links (I've removed the sway bar, but I got them free.)
- Rebuilt the calipers
- New caliper slide pins
- Ceramic brake pads
- Flushed entire brake system

I don't like spending money on things I plan on replacing, but I can't afford a long travel kit quite yet, so I went ahead and rebuilt the suspension. Plus, all of my original suspension components were shot, so I really didn't have a choice. Lol. Also did a few other small things.

Here's some photos of my current progress.

IMG_6944.jpg

My cheap Monroe shocks, but they are better than the ones I had that had leaked out all over the place. And they are longer to accommodate the extra suspension travel. My old shocks were basically being used as limit straps and were being ripped apart.

So that's where I'm at now. More upgrades coming soon!

I'm loving the build! Looks sweet! My plan once I get out of school is to buy a pre 2000 truck and do a build similar to yours, one questions tho, is It legal to drive where you are without a bumper? I did it once and got told it's a 1000 dollar fine in Ontario.... I only did it after my body lift and don't have the bolts
