Default B2500 Restoration

This was my dad's truck, he died in 2003 while living in Florida. My uncle from Colorado went down to handle everything and took the truck back home. Over the winter he offered it to me so I flew out and drove it home.

I started a couple of different threads on here for little things, but I feel one thread will be more organized. This will be slow and cheap, but I will do what I can, when I can.

Here is the truck when I first got it.

It had no real issues, but a a couple of things that bothered me. The constant door ajar light, and a leaky third brake light. I fixed both of those right after joining up here and finding out the simple fixes. Besides that I didn't do much else at the time because it was freezing ass outside.

A few days later I threw in an Alpine deck that I got from a buddy for 50 bux. I NEEDED Ipod support.

Fast forward to this weekend, I cleaned up the wheels as some of you saw in the other thread. For those of you who didn't see, I used a wire wheel and Turtle Wax chrome polish to bring them back to life.

Today I removed the front bumper (the only rusty spot on the truck) and took all of the paint off of the bumper. Wednesday I am going to paint the bumper and grill black. I also turned the Mazda emblem into an "Evil M"

Next, I want to do the same to the back bumper, also remove those shitty looking old and dried out decals off of the truck. I am not sure what I should use to do so. I know I will need a heat gun and goo gone, but what else? A plastic blade? IDK.

More will come when the time and or ideas roll in. I plan to put buckets, or a split bench with a center console in within a month or so.

Let me know what you guys think I should do (on the cheap).

Thanks for looking!

I can't believe how much of an improvement you made on those wheels... makes the whole truck look that much better.

I haven't used a heat gun to remove decals before but I heard it works pretty well. I don't have a heat gun so I used the redneck way of removing decals from my truck .. parked it out in the texas sun all day and peeled them off! Then used some of that adhesive remover I can't remember the name of from home depot (organic compound iirc). Looks like it was never there! I don't recommend my method though, lol.

Awesome progress so far, those wheels look amazing after you got through with them, good job!

when taking the decal off with the heat gun, if you had a plastic razer blade, it would make it soooo much easier. then you can heat up the adheasive and roll it around and off.

Today I removed some of the decals from the truck. It was very time consuming and some of them refuse to come off at all. I may be stuck with them. Anyways, on to the pics.

Here is what I used to get the decals off of the truck.

Before

After

I removed the "sx" and "Mazda" decals from the gate. The large decal in the middle is so old and dried out that I started to take the paint off with it. If anyone has another idea besides what I used today, I am all ears cause they are fugly.

I also cleaned up the interior a bit. It needs more work still, but if you saw this thing when I got it, you would puke. I don't think it was ever cleaned in ten years.
Friday my shift knob decided to pop off, so I threw an old one on. I don't know if I like it, but it doesn't come off every time I shift.

IDK if it was just because of how the pics were taking our what but the next thing I would do is restore the headlights and get the foggy look out of them.

I'm amazed on how much of a difference a little love made on those wheels!!!

I'm not 100% convinced on the choice of color for the grill, but sometimes a pic doesn't do justice to the job.

Did you plan to remove all the decals? or only the sullivan sport ones?

Looking forward to see what you'll do next

Thanks, I would like to remove all of the decals, but some are proving tough to remove. Whatever I can do.
