Smile GreatDane's 97' 4-banger - The making of my lowered truck "BlackOut"

Hi guys

OK, bought my first american car and it was a 99' 2,3 XLT 4x2

Lots of rebuilding and restoring is planned and will post a full list soon.

So i started the other day with cleaning the main chassis from rust, geez 5hours and not nearly done and it will need to pressure washed afterwards

Shot mid through the day:

Side pictures, with dent in door and repaired left front:

Next step: More cleaning and water pressure wash!

Then, two "washed" with used oil. Each 1 month dry and afterwards a full underwagon threatment with Pava or another material.

Well long story short, in Denmark, on The paper its a 98' but registered first time in 99' so in Denmark its actually 99

But will change the headline to 97

Anyone have any comments on the rust, is it bad for 97 ranger ?

Will post full build list soon

----------

How do i change the damn thread name

UPDATE 05.01.2014 - UNMOUNT OF DASH FOR BULB REPLACEMENTS IN DASHBOARD

Allright, as my mate has a naggy 95' California VW on he's large lift i could not continue with the cleaning of rust, so i decided to unmount the dashboard so i can find a replacement for the airbag bulb in the instrumental!

Seem's like the previous owner had given up on a Airbag + ABS warning light as both sockets where missing

Some pics of the unmount of the dash:

Knee panel going off

Knee metal panel off

Nearly done with the unmount

Main dash light socket+bulbs and small sockets+bulb for airbag etc

If you know where to find LED replacement for small and large bulbs in dash, let me know!

Also, i unmounted the Steering wheel panel as i have new painted the fits the rest of the cabine panels painted shiny black

New panels

Door panels

Also, i found out that the ignition switch is defectice and i can turn on vehicle without the key in it.

So anyone know where i can get a ignition + door lock kit for ranger?

Next update in a few days, as i hope i can continue with the clean!

give the exact measurements on the sockets, please. i have a cluster from a 95 mustang with all of the large and all but 1 of the small sockets stilll there. i did all of the bulbs in the truck last weekend, and the sockets look to be identical, but i'm not taking the cluster out of the truck again to check!
if they measure the same, you can have the sockets for postage. i'll also include some regular bulbs if you need them whi;e waiting for the led bulbs.

After the second scape down:

Prep for oil up:

Allright so it should be good until next winter, and if it go to the plan i will disassemble most of the truck and remove all rust

Next item in line is to find the vacuum leak!

I have filter coming by mail anytime soon and i got dye + paint on the way for a carpet clean and colouring and a full interior paint.

Furthermore i am waiting for buggman to send a full LED bulb package for the whole dash etc!

UPDATE 18.1.2014 - DISMOUNT OF INTERIOR / CABIN

So i began dismounting the interior / cabin to remove my rug to get it cleaned and dyed with this as a reference http://www.3si.org/forum/f120/rejuve...ctures-374403/

Damn dirty carpet, gonna be nice when its cleaned and dyed!

Could not finish disassebly as theese bolt's holding the seatbelt clip was STUCK AS HELL! We broke to torx's (thick steel) to try and loosen them.
So ended up spraying WD40 from the underside of the bolts and let it sit for a week!

Also i disassembled my passenger airbag light and i needed to change the burned bulb, but to my surprise it's not the same bulb as i seen in threads? Anyone know why my looks different can i have 2 lamps?

UPDATE 22.01.2014 - CHANGE OF OIL, TRANNY FLUID, OIL FILTER AND FUEL FILTER

Finally got time to update... 3 weeks ago i changed the oil filter and fuel filter. Lol it took 1 hour to change the fuel filter as we did not have the special tool to dismount the fuel filter But it got done..

Furthermore i change the tranny fluid and man was that the time for it! All black and with small metal on the magnet! Probably been ages since it was changed!

Also changed the main oil, so next for the engine is: Coolant flush, brake and cluth bleed and servo bleed!

Update 15/16.02.2014 - carpet unmount and full interior paint!

So we FINALLY got the last carpet bolt out holding the seat belt!
AND olly 5 broken Torx bits later! My mate (who's a mechanic) has never seen anything like it - quality torx bits broke like cheese in hot summer! We ended up flame heating it and afterwards i kept spraying WD-40 from under while he was working the bolt!

And voila, one dirty carpet unmounted:

And the bed:

Plan for the carpet is full soap up x 2 and afterwards dye it black! I will submit a HOW TO later on, but if it goes to plan i can dye it next weekend depending on how fast it dryes up after the soap scrub down!

Next, MY LONG AWAITED INTERIOR PAINT !!!!

I will make a HOW TO on this too, but here's some pics before and after

After the soap down and cleaned with terpentine and mark up with paint plastic

From inside the cabin right before i drove it outside for the paint job

Waaaaaaaaaaait for it!

And the random interior pieces and plates

I did not have more time as i had to go to my parents and celebrate my mom's birthday, but next time i will spraypaint the last pieces and missed tricky spots.

I used SEM color paint!

Next items in line: Expo leather bucket seats, OHC and auto dim mirror mod!
