My thoughts on ebay...
My thoughts on ebay are this: THEY SUCK! The douche bags called me this morning and pissed me off to no end. They almost tried to threaten me to become a seller. I cussed the cat out, and told them what they could do with ebay. Evil didn't do it justice. Is it me or is ebay and craigslist have indeed hit rock bottom? I think it has IMO. What do you guys thinks about these 2 websites? Do yourselves a favor and avoid the hassle of both of these websites.

Re: My thoughts on ebay...
ebay called you and asked you to become a seller? never heard anything like that. i've sold a few things, and bought a lot. it almost sounds to me like someone trying to scam you into giving up your info.

x3 on the above posts. sounds like a scam. I personally have had no issue with ebay, Had one issue with a buyer. Other than that I have made 137 transactions and have been happy

More info is needed, no clue what you're trying to say. I agree with the scam theory though.

Re: My thoughts on ebay...
Ebay will call you. I have been called by ebay before. They wanted me to upgrade to a powerseller because of the amount I had been selling at the time. It was legit no hoax because I also got messages from ebay about my phone conversation.

Re: My thoughts on ebay...
To answer your questions, ebay is a little desperate right now due to the bad economy and they wanted me to become a seller and the fact that they woke me up around 8 in the morning is not a good idea at all. This is how they got my number, from the phone book. I told comcast cable TV when I signed up for their phone service I wanted it to be unlisted. They didn't hear me and it was listed along with my address in what the phone book calls the dex pages. Ebay was the name that showed up on the caller I.D. If they think they can scam me, then they're dumber than I thought they were. I knew it was a scam from the moment they called. If they wasn't such douche bags about the way they do business and was the way it use to be then maybe, I would've considered it. It was one of those programs to help people get started on ebay type deals. Comcast provides my phone, internet and TV service.

Re: My thoughts on ebay...
When I say hoax/scam, I mean it is possible it wasn't eBay at all calling you. Caller ID name and number can be spoofed very easily. I don't know one way or another if it was really eBay or not. But what you describe sounds exactly like many other phone scams that are going around... mostly originating in places like Nigeria... fishing for credit card numbers and personal information. Sadly, it is usually the elderly that fall for it.
Or it really was eBay and they really are being creepy.

Re: My thoughts on ebay...
i got a call a couple weekends ago from ebay. it came up as an 866 number. it was a reminder that i had more than $6 in ebay bucks and it was about to expire. all automated.

Re: My thoughts on ebay...
What does this experience have to do with craigslist?
Craigslist > eBay.

This. It makes no business sense for eBay to cold call people based on a random phonebook. If you do a quick google search, no one else has posted a similar experience... everything is just about eBay calling to get money, and to mold current users. If eBay was truly just going around mass cold calling users there would be complaints & etc. online.
I seriously doubt eBay actually called you. What Matt said is my bet, scammer spoofed number and claimed to be from eBay.
