Ups
Horrible and disorganized company. A package that I sent to another member was lost in transit. The declared value I listed was automatically changed by the computer and decreased. I called the claims department and they had me provide them with proof of what it was actually worth so I sent them a PDF of the paypal transaction TWICE because they lost it the first time.
I called today to check on the claim and they said they're going to refund the "declared value" which is 200 less than what its actually worth/what the person paid. They basically had me send them the paypal transaction for no reason since they ignored it. They're refunding the old declared value plus shipping but shipping was $40 not 25 like they said.
They wont fix the problem and apparently there is never a manager around when I call.
So i'll be out $200 which is awesome because now it delays it even more for me to pay my license reinstatement as well as repair my truck to put it on the road since I basically don't have a job right now.
I ship a LOT of stuff out and they'll never be shipping anything else i have to send off to someone. FedEx or USPS will be the only ones shipping my stuff out.

Re: Ups
USPS hasn't been much better lately....
They've lost TWO of my packages in the last 2 months. Just my luck, I didn't insure them.
I learned that FedEx drivers don't actually work for FedEx, rather they buy routes to deliver packages for FedEx... if/when they steal or lose a package you're SOL.
Maybe we all need to come together and form a Ranger Delivery Service.

There is some confusion with your statement. Customers confuse FedEx Ground (the old RPS Package systems that was renamed by FedEx when purchased0 with the original company founded by Fred Smith in the 1970's by the name of Federal Express, now legally known as FedEx.
FedEx Ground uses subcontracting and like you confirm "are not employees, but contractors". They own their trucks and buy routes. They operate using the various white (mainly stick-shift) trucks that are green/grey lettering.
FedEx (the air division and the original company) operates with employees held to a much higher standard. They drive the white UPS-like box trucks with the Purple/Orange lettering.
I work for FedEx -- a very professionally run company, and I have experienced trouble with FedEx Ground/Home Delivery (which is the residential part of Ground). The standards for them are not as enforced because they are not employees.
Another easy way to tell is by the tracking number provided. FedEx is always a twelve digit number like 1234 4567 5566 whereas Ground/Home Delivery uses a long UPS-like number, such as ((0000001)11111222244567.
Fortunately, I only had one claim for Ground and it was for very minimal amt. like 13.55, and they paid it with no questions asked.
Sorry for your experience.

Shit! I just used USPS today actually. Shipped out a medium flat rate box with stuff in it for a member on here. Good thing I got it insured and requested delivery confirmation. I haven't had any trouble so far (knock on wood) with USPS and I hope it stays like that.

Wow, you are so intelligent....
I absolutely hate UPS. They shipped the exhaust for my Dodge a couple of years ago to some place in Nebraska, and after about 20 phone calls, they finally sent it to my address. A couple of months ago, I had to get another birth certificate and had them rush it to me since I needed it ASAP. Somewhere along the line, somebody spilled their coffee all over the envelope, and the new B.C. was ruined (I only needed my number anyway and I ended up finding my old one). When I called and told them that they owed me the amount it cost to ship it ($18.50 or something like that) they basically told me to shove it.
Fedex has been great, though. And so has USPS.

I LOVE FEDEX! I don't have to rush on ordering anything because they work on weekends unlike UPS I have to order in the beginning of the week in order to receive it before Saturday USPS is okay but I hate the local mail lady who delivers everyone's mail. She drives like a bat out of hell and almost hit me within inches 3 TIMES! I dare her to hit me; a new front bumper is just calling my name right about now lol

Re: Ups
A real horrible thing happened once. Money was tight for this guy. His wife go him a ps3 for christmas thru dell. well, he got home and DHL had left the box on the front porch. The guy was pissed! In his neighbor hood, you dont leave a giant DELL box sitting on the front porch!
Well, since they despartly needed to make there house payment for the month, he called dell and said, were the F is our package..!? They said it was delivered (which it was) and that they had left it on the front porch (which they did). He said, THEY LEFT IT ON THE F*CKING PORCH!!!! IT MUST HAVE GOT STOLEN!!! Dell sent another vis ups, and he sold the first one for $400.
I bet they feel terrible about it, please dont judge them
