...ancient Chinese secret... Calgon??!??
I use OEM Ford ovals, disassemble the chrome base from the Ford oval, sand, (my secret process to remove Ford chrome), sand some more, paint, sand, paint, sand & buff the front side to like new finish & re-assemble.
Each oval generally takes about a week from start to finish (in the spring/summer) but the cold temps lately have slowed things to a crawl... wet sanding takes a lot longer because my hands & the water almost freeze solid, the paint doesn't like cold weather for adhesion or curing, neither does the adhesive to re-attach them together.
It's definitely not a project for everybody to try. I scrapped a bunch of ovals before I got my technique down... even now about 25% of the ovals I have get scrapped for one reason or another... mostly because I find an imperfection that I don't like.
When they're finished, they look almost as good as brand new ovals (sometimes a little better).
