Tried to put in an optima battery, wouldn't fit base was to big. Got another one....much too small and it didn't come with adapters. Battery number three was just alittle too big. All three were redtops, different part numbers. According to the stores computer all three should have fit(two different stores). Oh well they are expensive anyway.

I was gonna go out and get you the numbers off mine, but They're too faded to make out. The base is a little too small for the Ranger battery tray, and it's a lil taller than the stock one, but it came with adapters to make it work, and I use a side post adapter set for the cables. Cleans up the engine bay and I still have the top posts open for jumping people off.

that's *exactly* what I did.
The guy "installing" it says, "hmm -- it doesn't fit, must be the wrong one."
I said, "you have a hammer?"
He says, "We can't do that to a customer vehicle."
I said, "well, if there were a hammer here, would you have any problem if I did it?"
He brought the hammer out, I "modified" the tray, and then he was able to install the battery.

I ended up with the smaller one and asked the clerk if i could keep the adapters from the bigger one(the small one didn't come with them). The GM adapter holds it down pretty good. I may have to get some j-bolts on there though. Either way i got it in so i'm happy.

I wanted to get an Optima battery 'cause I knew mine was showing signs of needing replaced. So I dilly-dallied and let things get down to crunch time one Sunday. My choice is now Duralast or Duralast gold from Autozone. No problem they're a decent battery. But Duralst batteries now sport a red top and yellow top respectively. Now I have a wannabe Optima battery. |
