Chassis Saver Project

Today's project was to coat my frame with this paint called "Chassis Saver." It's supposed to adhere to rust and prevent anymore from coming back.

First I sprayed the frame with the Purple Power degreaser/cleaner and then scrubbed it with a brush to remove any loose pieces of original undercoat or dirt from the truck. After that I sprayed it all off with the hose and let it dry overnight.

This morning I put my truck up on my redneck car ramps and began painting. The paint is actually very thick, like tar almost. I used a few cheap paintbrushes to apply the undercoating to every part of the frame that I could reach.

It is VERY messy and it doesn't even come off your skin with paint thinner, so be careful! Here are a few pics I took during the process

I put 2 coats on, letting the first coat dry for about 3 hours before applying the second. Now I have to wait 24 hours to drive my truck again, because that's how long it takes to completely cure.

I also used this opportunity to restore my rusty running boards and my tow hooks that were starting to rust

The finished project! I used a little more than half the can. (1 quart)

Overall, I'm happy with the Chassis Saver and would recommend it to anyone that's worried about frame rust.

I want to do this...but with POR-15....

Once i get my 98 ranger running, my red 99 is going to get parked and stored in my inlaws pole shed. Once there it will slowly get torn apart, and the frame done in POR-15. And If i can find a good deal on a 4door cab, i may do a cab swap...lol :)

Also how much of that chasis saver did u go thru? is that a quart or a gallon and how much was it?

Damn, I thought the rust on my truck was bad when my frame got painted. How did it get so rusty so quick?

Those redneck car Ramps, been there done that! Haha.

How did you apply the chassis saver? And how much money did it run you?

Thats all?? Barely a quart?? Did u just do the outsides of the frame or the inside too??
Doesnt seem like a quart would be nearly enuff....maybe a gallon!

Yeah that's all! I did the complete outsides and bottom of the frame and the top where I could reach. I did some of the inside, but there is just too much crap in the way to do the complete inside. The paint goes a long way and that's 2 coats. Last week we did my friends jeep and he used 3/4 a quart only

Yeah I was kinda sketched out about buying it at first, but I feel like I got it in time to save it.
