Any boyscouts out there? Need help with digital compass watch
 

Ok, i have this watch:

It is a Timex digital compass watch. All i have to do is hold the watch level and hit the top right button and it will tell me which direction I'm facing. I have calibrated it numerous times (using my location's Declination angle) to make sure it is right and each time it always shows North pointing in same direction. So now my qestion is., what is the dial around the watch for? I know its has the directions on it, but what is its purpose for turning? you know how you can just turn the bezel? All this may sound dumb, but i just want to know how to use the damn thing. I know i can use it to go in a direction I want, but what do i use the bezel for?

You rotate it to point north, and it basically just indicated to you what direction you want to go. I guess it isn't necessary because you have a digital read out, but if you had an old school compass it would be easier to use.

On an 'analog' orienteering compass, you rotate the bezel so when the magnetic needle points to north on your bezel, the arrow on the compass base points in your desired direction of travel - it makes it easier to sight in and hold a course while traveling. I don't see how you can (or even want) to do this with your watch - I'm not sure, but I think it's a holdover from a classic compass that's just cosmetic at this point.

yeah, you'd have to keep hitting the buitton to make sure your still going in right direction
