Re: More hp

I've done full exhaust, intake, and electric fan. I drove it bone stock and I'd say these upgrades helped. It isn't a hot rod, but I'd say it's pretty peppy for a high mileage four cylinder w/ 4x4..
From what I've researched the thunderbird turbo coupe engine swap adds horsepower AND mileage.

What kind of exhaust, intake, electric fan did you use

What do you mean by 5.0

Dhug08 04-14-2013 01:47 PM

Turbo it or swap your 4 banger for a 5.0 v8

More hp

Help it breathe better (intake and exhaust including heads ect), add lightness, or motor swap. The new ecoboost out of the Focus ST would give you fantastic numbers.

More hp doesn't always mean less mpg like if you put a chip or a high performance programmer it improves both

Rated at 18/27 and overall rating is 22. It's a $50,000 vehicle too. If someone claims theirs gets 28 mpg then I have a bridge to sell you.

Very true I have a 2006 Ford Mustang GT (NA "no power adder") that is running 318rwhp & Torque "Dyno tuned" that has better MPG's than a stock S197 255rwhp & only est. 40-50 hp less than a "supercharged" Roush 427R (est. 360-370rwhp). It's all in the parts selection and overall setup of the vehicle in question. You add a Turbo or supercharger than yes your MPG's will go down but keep it NA and get rid of restrictive OEM parts.... can give you better MPG's.
