Wax headlights?
 

So I notice that something that a lot of people but is the headlight restore kit. All they usually are is a couple different grit sand papers and some rubbing compound and polish. The point of these kits is to sand through the clear coat on the headlights that have become foggy over time as the paint decays.

So here's my crazy thought. Why not wax your headlights like you would the rest of your car? It seem like it should protect the paint on there just fine. You would probably end up having to do it a lot more often as the heat from the lights (especially if you have brighter than stock lights in there) would probably burn it off but hell, doing that once a month or so wouldn't be too difficult or expensive to do (although you would have to keep yourself from continuing on to the rest of the car as you do it) and would keep your headlights looking fresh as the day they rolled out of the factory.

Thoughts?

I wax my lights...helps snow and rain bead off too.

I wax mine all the time, and if their real bad use a light coat of light rubibng compound on them first.

Ive been doing this forever, its a must to keep the UV rays off of them. The hot sun is what turns lenses foggy and yellow..

i use rain x on my head lights turn signals and brake lights

Yup, I wax them too.

Other stuff you can do:
My brother uses polish on his windows & then waxes his windows on his '11 Ranger. I'm too lazy to do it myself. But when I use spray wax, I'll do the side windows. And polish will help your windows get clean, and doesn't strach(sp?) them, at least I can't see any. Rain-X is the same as wax by the way, so its cheaper and you only need to buy one product.

Oh, and yea you can use polish/compound on headlights as well, done it many times, however wet sanding (with the kits) works better for really yellow lights.

Pretty sure the detail master (djfllmn) will back me up.

yea wetsanding and compound works far better than those "restoration" kits...cheaper too
