loud chirping noise??
ok guys im new to the forums and tried to look around for an answer but cant find one. i've got a 2002 ford ranger edge 3.0 5 speed and about 4 days ago it started makin a loud chriping noise...i replaced the belt and transmission fluid and no help at all... I'm wondering if it could be either the idler pulley or the harmonic sychronizer or something else...anyone else had this problem? if so what was it and if not what does it sound like? i'm fixing to put it in the paint booth to paint it and get rid of the dents from a deer (thanks =/ haha) but i dont wanna spend that money until i kno whats wrong with it and get it taken care of. thanks in advance guys

how sure are you that this is the problem? ans how much does that run?
from the passenger side, stick you head with one ear facing the front, one facing the back. It will be obvious if it's from the back. I bought a OEM Motorcraft from O'Reillys. $125 vs $182 from the stealership.
Mine was chirping like crazy...thought it was the belt but listened for it and found it in the back of the motor...then read about the syncro...replaced it and it's been quiet under the hood since. |
yea sounds like mine...got up under the truck and it was like woah loud, so how much did the oem motocraft run ya?
$125 at O'Reillys...from what I've read DO NOT USE Dorman...they are made in China and are junk!! Stay OEM...it's just not worth it to cut corners on that part.

damn i guess thats better than payin for a new engine lol thanks for the help though man

ok so im lookin in the haynes manual and cant find the cam synch...all i see is something called a camshaft position sensor...is this the same?
Yeah it's in about the same position as a distributer would be...
This might help... CLICK Cam Sync Install |
my truck does the same thing but it only does it when its 20 degrees or lower outside and its only for the first couple of minutes driving it then she clears up
mine was the same way but now it wont shut the hell up... took it to my local ford dealership and he agreed the cam synch needs 2 be replaced....theyd charge 3-400 but screw that ill do it myself for 125 for an oem at o reillys
my truck doensnt chirp just idling its only when i drive it for the first couple minutes i wonder if this could be the same thing because by the sounds of it your guys trucks did it while idling
