gear oil for open diff
If a bottle of gear oil says for limited slip can i use it on my ranger's 2010 open diff or it will mess it up

Re: gear oil for open diff
the limited slip gear oil has friction modifiers in it. it should be safe to use in an open. if you havnt opened the bottle yet you could return it and get a regular bottle and few bucks back at most places

Re: gear oil for open diff
id check the owners manual for what oil is recomended. i thought ford swapped to syn 75-140.
as for the the synthetic over regular i didnt notice a difference other then synthetic stays cleaner longer but finds leaks easier and i think all newer fords come with synthetics from the factory |
Fill plug is that the one on that is square drivers side of diff on the bottom half of the diff ?

Re: gear oil for open diff
The FX4 & LSD calls for 75W140, the 7.5" & 8.8" open calls for 80W90. The dealers will sometimes use 75W140 rather than keep 2 oils in stock.

Re: gear oil for open diff
Like the other thread about this. Buy 75/90 weight amsoil for it and move on. 74/140 synthetic is thick as check when it's cold out 75/90 is the proper weight for an open diff in synthetic.
