Cheap Toolbox

Just bought my first Ranger. Came with toolbox on it. Looks great but doesnt work for nothin. No keys to it and the inner mechanism is broke and I would need to spend some time fixing it just to make it open and close properly.
Anyway... I want a new box but dont have much cash. I really wanna spend no more than 150 buks on it. All I can find online is around 300. I could have sworn that I bought a toolbox a few years ago for about 150.

Any ideas or places someone could suggest?

Thanks in advance.

craigslist. i may take some time. but you can find one there sooner or later.

and if you bought one a long time ago, to a bigger truck, that's probably why it was cheap. full size truck tool boxes are a dime a dozen on craigslist. you can no joke probably find 30 in your area that would go to a full size truck. there's always some in there.

not sure how wide my truck is. But I think this is for a full size. Anyone know the width of the bed? I'll get out and measure tomorrow if not.

I don't know the exact measurement but you're gonna need a toolbox that is around 52" at the bottom. Check some of your local Lowes and Home Depot stores. I got a toolbox for my '94 years ago there and I'm pretty sure it was around 150 or so.

home depot $147 for the small knack job box you will love it !
and much more durable than a cheep aluminum box you can pry open with a stick! if you want a cross the bed type and you want strength get a weather guard but there spendy

yeah. the link you have is a full size one. you want one has to be 50 som einches across i believe.

I would check Lowes, Home Depot and Tractor Supply. They usually are the cheapest. I found mine on graigslist.com. Some kid bought it for his Tacoma and it didn't fit so it was brand new! It's a HUSKY which i believe Lowes carry's new for around 225+...

Heres a link to the one I saw at lowes, I got the low profile one that doesn't stick up as much but its around $230 now. This ones only $148 and they also have it in black.

Kobalt Slim Line Compact Truck Tool Box $148

Excellent! Thats all i need. Something to throw crap in. Im not one to keep tools in my truck since I usually don't do work in the spur of the moment so this will be used for a jack, blankets, groceries, and yeh ill probably put a small set of tools in it. Lowes has one about 20 miles from me. Im getting it today! thanks!

FYI I looked at the lowes box again and its a slimline only 12" wide. Dont know if thats an issue for you. If your just gonna throw a few things in it that you should be fine I just thought it might look a little funny.

United Welding Service Toolboxes FTW! they are pricey though

CUTiger 02-11-2010 12:27 PM

Yeh I should have mentioned the fact that it was only 12", but with a short bed on a ranger that extra 4" of bed space makes a difference if you don't need the space in a toolbox. They have another one thats larger but it also cost more.

And yeh UWS toolboxes are great but they also cost at least twice what the ones at lowes do.
