Metallic rattle.
 

Hi everyone as you can tell im new to this site and the ranger so please bear with me. First off its a 2000 ranger ext. cab 3.0 v6 auto tranny 4wd and it has 98,000 miles on it. I am new to trucks and some noises have me worried and am suffering a bit of buyers remorse because im afraid I made a mistake in buying it, I really like the truck and it is really really clean both in and out. It has a 4 inch lift on it also.

Now onto the unknown noise that has me worried, when I test drove the truck it was cold and rainy so I had the windows up and the heater on so I didin't notice it, it basically sounds like a chain dragging on the ground while im driving and stops when I stop. Its not pinging because it does it while coasting to a stop and I have heard pinging in my old cars. At first I thought it was a heat shield but they don't seem to be loose and then I thought it was the spare tire hanger but it still does it after I tapped it up but it did make that same kinda noise. I have revved the motor in park until it hits the limiter and it sounds very healthy. I just changed the oil and it was old but clean and the new stuff is still really clean also.

If anyone has any info im glad to hear it thanks in advance for any help:)

I have determined it is not the motor, at 30 miles an hour I put the truck into neutral and let it coast along at idle speed and the noise stays the same reguardless of revving the engine or not, I have come to the conclusion that it has to be something with the wheel or brakes, if this has narrowed it down at all let me know what you think:)

It might be ur transmission or differential I would say to take it to a shop to see what is up
