Does anyone have a CB radio in their truck?

I couldn't find anything on this with the search function. I was thinking about installing a CB radio by mounting it to the ceiling just back from the windshield in the center. Has anyone done this? If so, do you have a picture, and also, how did you secure the mount? Thanks for any info.

Cobra 29ltd BC. The hole was originally for an Explorer OHC, but I failed, so covered it up with this. Just cut the headliner and be smart about it. I used 1" nylon spacers and 6 total screws instead of the stock 4 on the bracket. Wires are routed up the A-pillar under the plastic.

That's how I want to install mine. I guess I only need to cut enough for the mount, and a small hole for the wiring. Do you just pre drill the holes and use big sheet metal screws?

i used to have one in my truck but i took it out...mine was mounted on the bottom part of the dash to the passenger side of my shifter...but i think i like the mounted on the ceiling better

I just use my 40 ch hand held one and leave it in my glove box (Other truck)

Works fine on the highways and back wood areas... distance is limited to 8-10 miles

i think the ceiling mount is the best but also probably the hardest to do. how much is the Cobra 29LTD BC?

Does anyone have a pic of something like a Uniden pro 510 mounted under the ashtray?

Areyouforcereal? 02-08-2010 06:46 PM

I used to have a radioshck brand mounted to the ashtray of my 96 ranger. looked real good. Not a big fan of the ceiling mount. Seams like if you don't wrap the mic cord around it, it would be hitting you in the face and get in the way.

Nope. It's a good 8+" away from the head. I thought the same thing before I put it up there, but it's a non-issue. When the cord is hanging down, there is the chance of throwing the mic at your passenger though either under hard acceleration or bouncing on the trail...that's why you'd have a retractable tether. If the mic it up around the mirror, it's of no issue. I've got a dash mounted mic mount for when I wheel so it don't fly too.

I plan on relocating the mic holder down and facing it up like it should be so it don't just slide out of it's holder.

i've got everything to get mine installed (cobra 29 classic, 4 ft. fiberglass ant.) but i haven't decided where to put it yet.

i want to install it under the dash or at least out of the way but i have a Manual trans and a standard cab and its being difficult to find a good place to put it.

If you were to go with the roof mount and then you wanted to take it off are you just screwed? is there anyway to replace what you cut out? haha
