check your oss sensor is on your trans or transfer case other than that it really sounds like the needle is binding wonder if those modules can be RR'd seperately or if the entire cluster has to b changed out.:hmmmm2:

Check your VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). I have found most speedo problems stem from a bad VSS. Other symptoms are rough shifting and O/D flash. The sensor is located on top on the rear diff. check out this post.

It is possible that the 2001 uses the output shaft speed sensor on the trans/transfer case can anyone verify?

Yes the 2001 has a OSS on the upper driver side rear of the tranny. I believe the OSS sends info to the computer for proper transmission function. It works in conjunction with the VSS. If in question go to a parts store and get the codes. That should answer the question. Hope this helps.

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering which sensors that you replaced that fixed the problem?

I am havin gthis same problem and it is driving me nuts becaues it is bouncing up an ddown on the needle from when I am not moving, when I am moving the speedometer works perfectly find but I do hear what sounds like a high pitched static noise behind the dash...

Mine used to do that and it was the battery, I had to replace it... Once I did it stopped...
