Egr valve removal
I need to know the best way to get the egr valve off to clean it or replace it is on a 1998 2.5 4x2

Pretty simple. Unscrew the exhaust line from the bottom then unscrew two bolts. Viola.
I think there is a vacuum line as well. That just pops off. --1993 ford ranger ext cab 3.0 v6-- |

I got that part how do you get something around the pipe to take the valve off of the pipe or the pipe off the exughust manifold I've tried Chantal locks and adjustable wrenches but there to big I cant get a turn on them

I've tried a few times I'm half way tempted to take it to ford for 200 that or cut it off

Re: Egr valve removal
I have a 98, 2.5L, 2wd with 157K. I justed changed my EGR and getting the valve off was not big problem. Just 2 bolts and it will come off, but you have to get it off the EGR tube that runs to the exhaust manifold. Mine was rusted tight and I have to break the tube off the manifold and replace the valve, tube and the connector to the manifold. Auto parts stores carry the valve but only dealerships carry the tube and the connector.. Check your Chilton (if you have one). Its not that hard but it is work...

How much they get you for at ford

Re: Egr valve removal
The egr tube was around $70..yikes..and the connector was about $40..double yikes. But, the my truck is 13 yrs old, so with the valve, tube and connector, I was into the repair for about $175.
