First speeding ticket

Got my first ticket tonight. Went home and was on fb, realized this when I was looking at my wall, thought it was ironic

Ouch, that sucks. I'm always lightfooted and drive like an 80 year old. Better MPG and less prone to accidents. :D

Ive done 90 in a 45 ... and got a nice ticket for it. Cop only clocked 86.

Worst I got caught for was 101 in a 55 and evading the police.

Meh... To be young.

My speedometer reads about 3mph faster than the police radar. So when I see 43, they see 40. :D

Got a notice of violation in the mail about a month ago. Only reason there wasn't a fine was that a good portion of my face was covered by my sunscreen. If I wanted to I could identify the driver... GFYS Scottsdale! Hooray Ford!

JRock 08-05-2012 09:55 AM

29 in a 15, the cop dropped a mile so it wouldn't be reckless driving. I pulled into a school zone from inbetween the signs.... I thought the limit was 30, but I was still speeding.

The worst part was when a kid with a lime green crotch rocket told me that the very same dipshit cop, who was rude to me, let him off for doing 60 in the same school zone.

my speedometer reads around 5 over--even those trailer things they set out that clock speed say 5 diff than my truck.

My first speeding ticket was in a 95 aspire lol. If you guys know what they are i'm sure your laughing at this. But i was on the highway minding my own business when this car came flying up on me. It was blinding me so i downshifted and gave the lil beast all she had. Then next thingI know cherrys and berrys. 67+ in a 55. which is impossible cause the car shook so bad at 60. And btw he didn't clock me. He pulled me over based on his speedometer.

I read that as 95 in an aspire... The story was much less impressive than I hoped...

DadsFordGirl 08-19-2012 12:15 PM

I've only gotten one ticket, clocked me at 43 in a 20.
It was a straight country road that I never thought I'd see a cop on. It was dark and he got me, lol.

----------

But I admit, I'm a total lead foot. Just get lucky and haven't been pulled over since then. Like when I go down to Lexington, I go 85-90 most of the way. But I don't drive stupid. I don't weave in and out of lanes or ride peoples asses.

Re: First speeding ticket

I also got pulled over by one of the new state highway patrol chargers. Them suckers are hard to spot. He asked me if I intended on running lol. I said "Sir I'm in a 4cyl ranger" He said I thought you was gonna try to evade me. After I got my ticket I went to the municipal court and told the lady behind the glass that I just payed a payment for the new car. She didn't find it funny one bit

That's interesting.. My 91's speedo is 3-4 over

I've never got a speeding ticket, but I've got a ticket for failure to maintain lane, and a PTA for reckless and evading responsibility :s:

Every vehicle I've ever driven was this way. 3-5mph over, so I just go by the GPS. It says 79 when my speedo shows 83.

I've gotten one speeding ticket. 35 in a 25, in the company truck.:D 250 miles from home with one more job to go at 9pm. I was in a hurry. Worst part about it is that there were oil field trucks doing twice that in front of me and he waited for me to go by before he pulled out. I found out later that several other techs had gotten parking and speeding tickets from that same cop. I guess he doesn't like Dish Network. lol.

I can't understand why you guys would go 80 in a 45 and not expect to get caught. lol. The only time I ever sped on purpose was driving to Great Falls. Roughly 6 hours away, and I did it in 4 1/2 in a Dodge Neon. Not a single cop on that road anywhere.

I've heard that rarely are speedometers dead on but to make a generalization that "all ford's show faster", I find hard to believe -- especially 3 - 5 mph.

Edit: I checked into this and found an article that was very helpful, and two points I found interesting. The first is that by law speedometers set at 50 mph can not be off by more than 5 mph in either direction. The second is that Car and Driver Magazine did a study of 200 cars, and what they found at 70 mph was that the speedometers were off in favor of the drivers (meaning the speed was actually slower than the speedometer read and not faster) and off by only 1.37 mph. The article can be seen at http://www.ehow.com/info_12209329_ac...edometers.html

CitySlick 09-18-2012 03:20 PM

It's how they are calibrated from factory.... I've been in many fords, and all are the exact same way. Speedo speed vs GPS speed. Fords are 3-5 MPH fast. As are a few other random vehicles I've compare it to.

I can attest to this. every day on my college campus i drive by the reader boards that tell your speed and sure enough, it looks like im doing 27-28 on my speedo but it tells me 25 on the board

A thought occurred and maybe it is the rounding due to the difference in miles vs. kilometers, for example 1 m = 1.6 km.

How do you know that the radar gun inside those curbside "info-traps" are correct? I have driven a lot of Ford's but other brands also, and I've never ran into an issue with speed. Nor is it common knowledge that "Ford's have issues with speedometers".
