Will a 5 speed standard trans from a 4.0 V6 fit on a 3.0 V6??
I have 1999 ranger with the 4.0 V6, I might need a new transmission and I want to go from Automatic to a 5-Speed trans (I can get a low mileage 5 speed with everything pedals, shifter slave cyl. for $300 only 80K on it), will the 5 speed trans from a 2000 4.0 fit a 1999 3.0 v6??
 |
No, it won't work. The bell housing bolt pattern is different 3.0 to 4.0 and the bell housing is integral to the trans case.

Dam!! Should I just do a 5.0 swap like you did? I might be able to get one cheap from a junk yard.....

Use the correct transmission, column parts, pedals, etc. and an auto to manual conversion is 100% bolt in, just like on the assembly line. You'd be signing up for more than that with a Ranger V8 swap.

Re: Will a 5 speed standard trans from a 4.0 V6 fit on a 3.0 V6??
I have a '94 V6 4.0 Ranger as well! And my transmission needs a band adjustment. But I want to build a prerunner so I was thinking I might as well swap it with a 5 Speed. How aNd where should I get a kit to do so. I have found a few used 5 speed transmissions from various places. But where do I get the pedals and other necessary parts. Please help!

Here's some stuff you'll need. There could be a few odds and ends that I didn't think of. Transmission, clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel Engine/transmission harness (or hack the automatic harness) Manual PCM (or possibly get yours reprogrammed) Clutch master cylinder, push rod and line Clutch pedal position switch Clutch/brake pedal assembly |
