Truck Needs To Be More Secure

Sorry if you think this should be in Exterior... I couldn't decide... haha

So my truck was broken into again last night... 2nd time in the last 4-5 months. I really don't wanna put it back to stock so I'm trying to figure out how to make it more secure. My first question is is there any way to make it so they can't put a screwdriver in and pop that lock? Also I guess I need to bite the bullet and get an alarm so I need suggestions/opinons.

My concern is both times they've broken the pass. side key lock and popped the lock. This time they didn't take anything from inside the truck but I still have to go to a body shop and pay the deductible. Is there a way to prevent the body damage in the future?? Thanks!

There is the LED lock mod for power locks.

there is modification that can be done to the inner door frame. Shane might know about it?

I was even going to go as far as removing the lock button rod so you can't get to it. I would have had to lock and unlock my truck from the outside but all well.

Yeah... I have power locks so I was thinking about removing the lock cylinders all together and just putting a chrome cap. I'm not so much worried about them taking stuff 'cause frankly there's not much in there and this guy didn't take anything. My concern is the time/money it's costing me to deal with the body damage for them to find out there's nothing worth taking.

My brother tells me not to do anything 'cause it's not gonna keep happening but I'm thinking stickers and LEDs... alarm too if I could find a decent one I can afford.

i put a alarm/ remote start/key less entry combo on my truck and i love it, Ive had mine alarm go off a couple of time in the middle of the night, it also has a blinking led light thats constantly blinking when its engaged, i got it from JCwittey, if u got ant questions about which one i have and stuff, just PM me!

Sorry to hear that but there really is nothing you can do to prevent it. If they really want in they will do it. I think with an alarm, by the time the alarm goes off the damage is done.

If I would have kept my truck I have swapped in a set of these locks:

alarm is a good way to go, and see if your insurance will give you a discount for having one, dont skimp on it though get a good one, i purchased one for my dodge, installed with door lock integration, glass shatter senser and all the stuff including a lifetime warranty on parts and labor was around 400. its expensive but it seems to be a good deturrent. you can put a flashing led only into it so when the key is off it comes on, and simulates having an alarm, just depends on what you want/can afford. my insurance gave me a a little discount for getting one. wasnt much, but in a year it covers the cost of the alarm. do lots of research on the brands/features to see what fits your budget. stereo wearhouse on hwy 99 in north seattle seems to have some good deals as well as car toys. alot of people arent happy with car toys, but they have treated me pretty good, and the install wasnt a hack job. i have had it for awhile now and havent had any problems. but thats what a warranty is for if i ever need it. hope this helps...

Sorry to hijack Marie...

smakes 01-15-2010 11:46 AM

shave your doors lmao

Fastncrazy1 01-15-2010 11:50 AM

well, they can install the solonoids with the alarm, to give you keyless entry....its all about the $$$ how much do you want to spend? im trying to sell my shaved doorhandle kit i bought awhile back that is an alarm as well, has the key fob remote, shave your handles completely...its affordable....under 150$ you just need to find someone to install it.

Thanks guys! I've been looking at the Viper (1002?) but I honestly don't know anything about these. I don't want remote start for sure and my budget is like zero but after one or two trips to the body shop my deductibles are covering what the alarm would cost. I know nothing about alarms but I know my power locks in my '99 were a Python... I didn't even think of Car Toys... I'm only a few miles from their 130th & Hwy 99 store. Thanks!

That's kinda where I'm leaning... lol... easier to replace a broken window than keep taking it to the body shop.

Hey Christian, where can you get those locks?
