How to clean the IAC valve
if your idle is off or you have a whining noise this may be all you need to do instead of buying a new IAC valve try cleaning it.
remove the IAC valve from the intake manifold by removing the 2 10mm bolts, and disconecting the plug http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...acvalve005.jpg remove the black cap on the side of the valve to allow it to drain and dry properly, this is just a vent cap http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...acvalve003.jpg you can use sensor cleaner or electrical cleaner. spray in the 2 holes on the side let it drain and spray some more, there is usually alot of carbon build up in there it may take several sprays http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...acvalve001.jpg let it dry compleatly before re-installing |
This is interesting... I have a roaming idle a minute or two after startup as well as a whining noise during acceleration...
I'll try this tomorrow. Work today, FML. |
For me i was not very lucky. I had to buy a new IAC but it wasnt but 32.00 i got a discount on it when i worked at oreillys. Although imo i did try to clean it first but it kept cutting off or acting like it wanted to cut off.

Re: How to clean the IAC valve
Hey there, just wanted to say i was looking into what you had posted about the Iac valve. my ranger was bad when i would slow to a stop and then hit the gas again. she would totaly lose power, tried loads of things. but i said worth a try so i took the valve off. did what u said, and woohoo, works better then when i first paid for the truck lol. so thanks, u diffanitly helped me out with your post. :)

Re: How to clean the IAC valve
I think what he's saying is that there is already a well established how-to thread on this topic.
And it's already accumulated alot of questions and answers. |

Re: How to clean the IAC valve
can the IAC valve be damaged easily kind of like the MAF sensor?
|
Re: How to clean the IAC valve
I cleaned mine, and the throttle body, and MAF. My MPG went to shit. I don't think that cleaning it messed them up, I think it uncovered another issue that I have yet to solve. I dropped 2 MPG doing it.

Is this the same on my truck?

Re: How to clean the IAC valve
Thanks I was looking for a how to on this. Is it the same on a 2000 2.5L? I have a noise similar to a whine and erratic idle.

Re: How to clean the IAC valve
Does this run metal to metal or do I need to grab a new gasket before removing it for cleaning? 3.0 V6, vin U. Thanks.
