How to clean the IAC valve

if your idle is off or you have a whining noise this may be all you need to do instead of buying a new IAC valve try cleaning it.

remove the IAC valve from the intake manifold by removing the 2 10mm bolts, and disconecting the plug

remove the black cap on the side of the valve to allow it to drain and dry properly, this is just a vent cap

you can use sensor cleaner or electrical cleaner. spray in the 2 holes on the side let it drain and spray some more, there is usually alot of carbon build up in there it may take several sprays

let it dry compleatly before re-installing

This is interesting... I have a roaming idle a minute or two after startup as well as a whining noise during acceleration...

I'll try this tomorrow. Work today, FML.

For me i was not very lucky. I had to buy a new IAC but it wasnt but 32.00 i got a discount on it when i worked at oreillys. Although imo i did try to clean it first but it kept cutting off or acting like it wanted to cut off.

I think what he's saying is that there is already a well established how-to thread on this topic.

And it's already accumulated alot of questions and answers.

You do know none of these pictures work right? Why did you post the link like 15 times if it has a bunch of non-working pictures?

Re: How to clean the IAC valve

can the IAC valve be damaged easily kind of like the MAF sensor?

Re: How to clean the IAC valve

I cleaned mine, and the throttle body, and MAF. My MPG went to shit. I don't think that cleaning it messed them up, I think it uncovered another issue that I have yet to solve. I dropped 2 MPG doing it.

Is this the same on my truck?

Re: How to clean the IAC valve

Thanks I was looking for a how to on this. Is it the same on a 2000 2.5L? I have a noise similar to a whine and erratic idle.

Does this run metal to metal or do I need to grab a new gasket before removing it for cleaning? 3.0 V6, vin U. Thanks.

i bet it's gasketted, & i bet you could reuse the one one there if you are careful taking it off

What are you talking about? Every single picture works in that thread.
