dome light stays on after passenger door is shut"WHY"

Does anyone know what to do

MattFetters 01-07-2010 08:52 PM

did you turn it on by accident with the dial that adjusts the lights in your cluster..?

Try this...

As I posted here: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/elect...r-problem.html

Ended up taking a screw driver to the door latches and just pushing the latch back (simulating the motion it would make when it hits the metal pole it's supposed to latch onto). The force of the screwdriver was enough to cause the "door ajar" indication to go off so then I was able to confirm that the problem was with the door latch and I knew which door was causing the problem. After that I just SOAKED the latch in WD-40 and the problem was solved.

Quick and easy solution: Soak both door latches in WD-40. If that fixes it you know what the problem was.

Tom's right - soak that sucker in WD-40. These trucks are notorious for having issues with the latches sticking.

I was having exactly the same problem with my 2002 Ranger, the door ajar light would come on, sometimes it would stay on along with the dome light. After reading about the problem on a couple of posts on here I soaked the latches with WD40 and haven't had a problem since.

you actually dont even need to soak it
just spray some in the latch assy or electrical contact cleaner would be even better
