Brake Drum Overheating
My right rear brake drum is overheating and i have no idea why. the adjuster is in the right way, and it keeps over-tightening and heating the drum up. everything looks in perfectly good shape, but every few times i drive it, i have to back off the adjustment. any ideas on what this may be?

That's odd. I've got a drum brake guru buddy who I'll ask and get back to you hopefully with useful information

Re: Brake Drum Overheating
Did it just start doing this, or did you, or have somebody redo the brakes?

Re: Brake Drum Overheating
sounds like the self adjuster has been installed improperly and is adjusting on fwd brake apply. which shoe is the adj cable mounted to ?

Re: Brake Drum Overheating
It may be that somebody put the adjuster for the other side on that side, ones left hand thread, the other right hand, that would cause it to adjust with forward stops.

Re: Brake Drum Overheating
if all the self adjuster linkage is correct and it's Just the that adjuster is swapped the shoes will back off instead of tightening.

Re: Brake Drum Overheating
I checked my adjusters and they seemed to be in the right positions. I'm not sure what's going on. I switched out the drums, and it is still doing it, so its not the drums for sure.

Re: Brake Drum Overheating
Is your adjusters pointed with the long end facing towards the front of your truck?
Sounds to me like you've got a stretched return spring, and it's not bringing the shoe back after you let off the brakes. |
