What is happening to me
 
Okay, here's the thing. I put in some new pioneers yesterday (love them), but there was one thing I forgot about. My little dome light was on the whole time and completely drained my battery by the time I was done (it was old anyways). Well, before I could change out my battery I had to move my truck out of the way. I hated turning the steering wheel without power steering but it had to be done. Today, I was driving, and I hit a bump...next thing I know, my wheel started to jerk violently and wouldn't stop until I slowed to 20mph any ideas? My fluid level isn't low and it is getting a little better but I'm assuming I effed something up. Also my outer lock doesn't work with my key either today so I had to use the passenger side. Any ideas for that? It isn't power. HELP ME BEFORE I SHOOT MY RANGER

i had my front end on blocks and i was moving the wheel like a jerk too and same thing so i bleed the powersteering system nd it just went away shortly after

that would be called death wobble and is probably unrelated and just a fluke. check your tie-rod ends and ball joints

Nope, not a death wobble. Whatever happened is gone, I'm assuming that the fluid ended up getting air in it or something

Okay so I found your post and something similar has happend to me. I had to move my truck without the ignition on but truck off and something similar happend i started the truck the steering wheel jerked out of my hands then the truck immediately stalled check engine light flashed then I crank back up everything is fine. Light goes away but then I loose power steering. An notice fluid spraying from under my hood. My power steering cap popped slightly off and my power steering fluid was everywhere. Cut the engine off filled it to the hot point with fluid and it was rough for a while but smoothed out. Can of engine degreaser and a good wash and everything was fine. Talked to my mechanic he said moving some rangers with the engine off will create a back pressure and it either blows a seal in the system of pops the cap off and releases all the pressure. Mine luckily popped the cap off. He said he's only heard of this is rangers no other vehicle I've had or anyone else has done this
