Thinking fuel gauge is broke
After putting in new tank and fuel pumps when I filled up the needle would always go past full. I use to get bout 155 miles on a full tank but the truck had a miss. Somewhat fixed the miss only does it every now and then. I am on 150 miles now and still above quarter tank. So I am jus a lil worried don't want to run out of gas so is my truck just running better and getting better gas mileage or is my gauge broke.

Re: Thinking fuel gauge is broke
could be your floater in your tank. i had one with a VERY SMALL hole in it, couldnt see it with your eye, but it was still taking in gas. Try replacing that first. if its not that, may be the sending unit unless you replaced all that when you replaced the pump

Re: Thinking fuel gauge is broke
when i replaced my fuel pump my gas gage on the stock oem one would read like that. full and past "F". now its the opposite. on full I'm below the "F". it just has something to do with the floater in it. just play with it a little. i dont know what you tank size is but when you get gas if you have the 16.9 like iu do and you put in 14 or so then you know when its empty. just takes a couple tanks to feel it out.

When I replaced my fuel pump the auto shop gave me 3 O-rings, I used the biggest one without realizing it (I needed to be using the medium size one) which caused my floater to be off balance giving me the same problem you're having. So if you had multiple O-rings, it might be something to look at.

Re: Thinking fuel gauge is broke
I replaced my fuel pump the other day and now my gas gauge seems off. Gauge showed little over quarter tank and it held 14 gallons. Before the new pump it would hold 14 gallons if it was on empty.
