Idle Problem

I have a 2001 ranger and whenever i start it up it idles up to high. I have replaced idle air control valve. Could it be the mass air flow sensor? If not any suggestions?

Re: Idle Problem

it should go down if you let the truck warm up for 10 minutes

I really dont know. I havn't got under the hood and realy looked. I had some people tell me it was probably the mass airflow. But when i unplug it the engine dyes, it doesnt idle up

i would replace the sensor. look at your plugs too replacing them could help. did you check your filter housing?

yea i checked to make sure it wasnt cracked and i didnt see anything. The mass airflow is about 100 bucks. i was checking around trying to get someones opinion on what it could be before replacing it. I will check the plugs i think it has 8 right?

Re: Idle Problem

depends on how many cylinders you have. just go to an autozone and have them put your vehicle info in and they can tell you. if you buy plugs get bosch platinum +4 they dont need to be gapped. i just put new plugs in mine and it help with the gas milage by 10%. i would assume it would help with the idle. idk if the mass airflow sensor is a dealer only part, but if you could find one aftermarket with a good warranty i would get it. sounds like you have investigated everything. it sounds like the sensor could be faulty and messing with the computer. see what happens

Re: Idle Problem

We have an oreillys and the MAF sensor was the aftermarket. I hope its the sparkplugs. if it is it will save me a lot. I also cleaned the MAF out hoping it will help and it didnt do much.

I would check it out good luck!

A lot of sensors can be or "ARE" checked for resistence and or voltage. (That's how the Tech's "do it"). The computer only points you in the direction of the fault, you still have to do a little investigating/testing.
These tests will condemn or approve whether or not they're (sensor devices) are doing their job or are any good.
Search around on the 'net...plenty of info and even video's showing "How To" for many of these sensors...

If your knowledge is lacking in doing this kinda work, either search out a good mechanic or "learn yourself"...ain't really that hard.....
A cheapie volt/ohm meter can be had for pennies on the dollar.
Goodluck.

Re: Idle Problem

could be leaking air around the throttle body or base of the intake around the iac or egr the throttle pos. sensor could be bad or have bad wiring check them out and see what you come up with
