b4000 will not rev past 3500 rpms

Hey Guys,
I am really frustrated with my 2000 B4000. Bought it used a year ago and it has never been able to rev past 3500 rpms. In neutral it will when stopped but not when in gear no matter how fast or slow I am going. Also does not seem to downshift into first when I move the automatic shifter down. Into second no worries just not first. Idles fine, runs well no weird noises. Any suggestions?

Also the Door Ajar light comes on and off intermediately!

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

so if you have it in drive.... and you flat to the floor it wont go over 3500..... you have a problem...

if its in park or neutral its to keep you from being an idiot and revving it for no freaking reason at all

What sort of problem do you think I may have then if it won't rev over 3500 rpm?

Really? That is kinda weird! Any idea where I can find more info, maybe I'm searching the wrong things but can't find anything like it on the internet.

rev limiter. solution: get a new manual truck. loose connection in a door ajar switch solution: diagnose and repair bad wires or switch

My OHV rarely will rev over 3500 RPM's either...I just associated it to how the motor is, also could be maybe your throttle cable has a lot of slack in it? causing you not to achieve open throttle...

That cant be true. They tested both engines for max HP at higher RPMS (sohc and ohv)

Hell, my SOHC has gone 20 5,000 and she was peppy.

it does in fact have a rev limiter on *mazdas* so that when your in neutral or park it will not go past 3500rpms
