how to remove sway bar

step by step on how to remove sway bar and is there one in the front and rear?

Ranger01 01-23-2012 10:17 AM

Yes front any rear.

Four bolts in the front I think 13 mm and the the sway bar links are 13 mm also I think. Rear is almost the same. I think four bolts and then the links that go to the frame

hook a strap to it, hook other end to tree. Floor it. leave broken pieces behind for the enviromentalists to have something to bitch about...lol

The purpose is a smoother ride. With the front sway bar hooked up, it limits the travel on the suspension. Also, so you drive up over a curb with the drivers side, the suspension will work, and also work the passanger side via sway bar. Once sway bar is removed, driving over said curb will not affect the other side.

would this have a negative effect say if I did alot of highway driving? I wouldn't want it the suspension to be "squishy" and hard to keep straight on long drives.

I disconnected mine and got a much smoother ride plus my truck had a big clunk from the front end after it sat for a while and I could never figure what it was but after I disconnected my bar the clunk went away, still not sure why it did that but I'm not going to worry about that now, it may never get hooked back up as long as I own it, also my truck did not come with rear bars, it sways a little more in turns but does not feel out of control at all
