2.5 cooling system bleeding adventures
hey everyone...quick little nugget for ya
it's winter here, hella cold, and just recently i started hearing air bubbles in my dash area right where the heater core is located. i noticed to take a look at the coolant level in the tank, was good, in the rad, was good also although it was dirty and almost brown so fuck it i'll just drop and replace it, that was yesterday at around 2pm long story short i was stuck in the garage with that mofo until 9pm still trying to bleed that darn thing out of air, i've tried about all the tricks i can think of, jacked the nose up in the air, even went for a drive flat out at 160km on the highway with no radiator cap on, at the end of that drive it wasn't quite there yet but at least my heater was working and my temp gauge wasn't following my tach anymore this morning hopped in cold as hell start it up and let it warm up for about 5 minutes, same darn thing happens air in the heater again temp gauge all over the dash...water pump is 1 year old thermostat 1 year old also, no coolant leaking and brand new pressure cap...where is that air coming from? i had to replace the original engine for a cracked head...is this 1 gone now too? |
Did you ever get any further with the bleeding?
Anyone have a good bleed procedure to follow say after a RAD swap, etc? I am concerned about some possible air trapped since the swap, thx.. |
Re: 2.5 cooling system bleeding adventures
Refilling the system does not take tricks or effort. Fill the radiator complete. Start the engine and let it warm up. When the thermostat opens, water will begin circulating through the radiator and the level will go down. Keep topping it off until it stops dropping and may even begin to rise. Put the cap back on. It's full.

but yeah if you sometimes have trouble bleeding it out, jack up the front end in the air or reverse way around, hell it worked for me |
Re: 2.5 cooling system bleeding adventures
moving forward
i started taking the top of the engine appart, right now i'm at the top half of the intake and noticed something weird. while i know there might be a oily residue in the runners, runner#3 in the lower half of the intake is washed up almost to the bear metal while the others are oily and black, knowing that there's coolant flowing in the top half of the intake is it possible that it's cracked? anyways gonna look into it and keep on tearing parts off, i have the parts with me and a spare head so i guess i've got nothing to loose at this point |
Re: 2.5 cooling system bleeding adventures
no need for more help, engine block is cracked, not bad, 250 000km two engines now needs a third ...nope i'm done, the truck is for sale, i don't have money to fix it even less doing a project with it, anyone interested in the new-brunswick area just send me a message, body is in good shape i'll throw in the second set of wheels with summer tires with it, it runs fine but for how long i don't know, just don't expect to have a good heater in winter conditions lol
